I’m stunned. Flabbergasted. Speechless. Andy’s a Pubbie? I figured he had a donkey on his butt the way I have an elephant, stamped there by our mothers at birth. He was, if you aren’t old enough to remember, THE AMERICAN IDOL. He was AMERICA’S SWEETHEART. To this day, we joke about how we’d all swoon and go “Annnndy” when we heard his voice. I had every album (he sings in my key — a bonus). I can still sing all the words. His Christmas Shows on TV were WONDERFUL. We’d all sit around and watch his parents, his kids, his friends, his guests and their families.
I’m even more stunned he opened his mouth on this. I’d have figured him for the “speak no evil” kind of guy — you know A-political. Poor guy, his friends in the business are probably going to have him declared senile and incompetent. At one time, IF ANYDY SAID IT, we all SAID IT.

These idiots can't even get their facts straight about "Moon River". Andy Williams didn't "write" Moon River. Lyrics were written by Johnny Mercer and the music by Henry Mancini. Williams had a major hit with the song, but had nothing to do with creating it. Check out this
link, and scroll toward the bottom, for a list of songs associated with Johnny Mercer. Man, this guy was talented.

Robert and Jack Kennedy were strongly anti-communist, apparently Williams is simply remaining consistent.

Moon River was Johnny Mercer’s last hit. It was one of his best.

one of my earliest memories of seeing television was his variety show with the guy in the bear suit

It fits. Joe McCarthy was the Godfather of Robert Kennedy’s eldest daughter, Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, former Lt. Governor of Maruland

You’re right... Johnny Mercer.
“Moon River” brings a flood of memories as it was one of my favorites... I think I was in the sixth grade. Sheesh.

Now you've gone and done it...NOSTALIGIA! Andy Williams Christmas specials. Man, I miss those days when network television at one time actually thanked you for allowing them into your home, instead of "joining us tonight." Guest appearances by Jimmy Stewart and Bob Hope, and a walk on by John Wayne always brought the house to its feet. Audience members, cognizant of their appearance on national television actually wore suits and ties to the shows, instead of like these days, everyone dresses like an escapee from a kindergarten class...and it wasn't "Happy Holidays!", it was "Merry Christmas to you!"...(sigh)

Moon River was Johnny Mercers last hit. It was one of his best.By number of records sold, perhaps. But after "Moon River" (1961) he had "Days of Wine and Roses" (1962), "Charade" (1963), "Emily" (1964), and "The Summer Wind" (1965). All excellent songs and all hits. He also wrote "Drinking Again", one of my favorite Sinatra renditions.

IIRC Andy makes his money now via his theater in Branson, MO, where most of his audience would likely agree with his Obama comments :)

I always liked Andy!
I was surprised and pleased to see 2 small “joker” stickers on a stop sign in my very blue city. It was in a part of town that is a bit more ethnic and perhaps culturally conservative. But they still vote overwhelmingly Dem.

BTW, Seriously Sinatra on Serius/XM Radio has been playing Johnny Mercer singing “Moon River” fairly frequently lately. In fact they’ve been playing a number of his vocals recently.
