Emotions run high at a protest over a banner that depicts President Obama as the Joker from Batman. Some call it racist and disrespectful. Others say race has nothing to do with the issue.
The image is stirring up quite a bit of controversy. You can see the large sign is displayed outside of Club Velvet, a gentlemen's club in Richmond.
The banner led to a protest by the NAACP. The organization says the image is not only an attack on the president, but on all men and people of African descent.
"The presence of a black president that has African blood is very troublesome to many in this country," said King Salim Halfani. "They can no longer hide their prejudices."
Not everyone agrees. Some who showed up here say the sign is a reflection of outrage by the American people who are unhappy with President Obama.
"I don't think it's racial at all. I think the administration is a joke and that's the theme behind the picture," said Frank Singleton.
The owner of the club did issue a statement, which in part says, "Anyone who believes this banner is racist is an ignoramus. And just because the president is part black doesn't mean he can't be criticized."
The NAACP says it will continue to express its displeasure with the sign until it comes down.
has to be a shock. normally, just complaining would be enough to get their way.
I HONESTLY do not even see or think “black” when I look at him. He IS half WHITE after all.
What I DO think and see oozing from him is liberal, arrogant, liar, divider, LIAR, race-baiter, power-hungry, Marxist, LIAR.
I’m actually wondering why the black community hasn’t scolded him for “acting white” and speaking like whitey instead of remembering his roots and using ebonics so that his biggest fans can understand him better when he gives a speech.
What is a “king” Salim Halfani?
Another statement offensive and troublesome to democracy in any country!
fool
Looking at the poster it looks like his “white” is showing through. I guess that has the NAACP upset.
I think that is what pisses them off the most...they know there is no real racial element to The Joker image and it kills them.
Yep.
Hey, wonder if he got a big NEA grant for his “inspirational artwork” the way the other artist did for that poster that was used in Obama’s campaign.
Surely he’s entitled to some NEA funds. This Joker poster has inspired millions! :-D
“Shenanigans”!!??
That’s racist!!!
NAACP: shut up.
Watch out the “Sourpuss Express” comin’ through!
>>The presence of a black president that has African blood is very troublesome to many in this country,<<
We are especially troubled by the fact that he was BORN in Africa! I’m also very concerned about the MUSLIM blood and MUSLIM allegiance that seems to be coming out bit by bit.
Wow, that's quite a moniker! With a name like that, I can understand his displeasure with us lowly crackers.
“they know there is no real racial element to The Joker image and it kills them”
That’s a solid theory. I can hear them whining about why more posters aren’t blatantly racist. Where are all the references to fried chicken and grape koo-aid? How long do we they to wait before the Little Black Sambo and Uncle Ben pictures pop up?
You’re right. He’s really more white — born of a white mother, raised by her white parents, grew up in a white community, used to go by ‘Barry’...
My look at all those racists, hating Bush for his race.
A black president! Well, technically he is brown and regardless of skin color I despise him and the democrat party. That is because of his core beliefs, policies and intentions to subvert the Constitution. I dislike feces not because it is brown or where it comes from but because of what it is at it’s core.
The NAACP is DDS (Dumber than Dog $hite!)
Wouldn’t he more fit The Penguin? Being half Black and half White?
