I don’t think McCrystal changed the Rules of Engagement (with regard to the air support) I think that was made higher than him. Also, I saw Gates on the today saying he was “sitting” on McCrystal’s report and it hadn’t been sent to the White House????

Part of McChrystal’s strategy is basically American soiders die first before “civilians”. Hope to hell you don’t get ambushed if "civis" are near because you will not get support.

What is up is McCrystal knows where to go but is afraid to go there right now. Everything he has worked for is now being denegrated and spat upon by the CIC and now he must either relegate himself as another Westmoreland or stick his finger in the eye of the politicians and gain the eternal respect that Patton will never lose.

Seems to me like he and 60 Minutes blamed everything on "bad habits picked up over the last 8 years" (Bush's fault).

Also talked about not using airpower on residences even if they are taking fire from those residences, and winning the people over even if it means higher risks for troops.

I say to hell with that, we are there to kill taliban ragheads period, if there is no clear cut way to define victory and the muslim in chief won't support the mission then let the air force and the drones handle any large congregation of targets and get the troops the hell out.
