What convinced me was what our SOS said last week, that “there are other valid viewpoints that we do NOT need that many troops, and that the war can be won by fighting fomr a distance away using drones, and missiles and small contingencies of troops.
Can you imagine if that happens being a Navy Seal or other special forces being sent over there.
This why I think MCChyrstal will be talked out of resigning.
The liberals believe they can do a better job there with fewer people.

Yeah, I turned it off after the third reference and comment blaming the failures of the past eight years. Not to mention that part of the war strategy is for the forces to drive safer in the streets, because in the past their high speeds have shown arrogance. Oh yeah, guns also show arrogance. He has also banned any firing in public and residential areas even if we are taking fire from those locations. With this kind of strategy one has to wonder just what McChrystal wants with 40,000 extra troops. He can get 400,000 extra troops and as long as he is fighting a PC war, it won’t make any difference, we will lose.
i was actually shocked to see him at minus 10 today.
I mean the guy is finally acting half presidential, and his numbers drop.
Now the Afghanistan thing.
PIcture this. Your men are in a war. Commanders are asking for 40,000 more troops....just like Iraq just like Viet Nam... Bush and LBJ do not hesitate and the troops are sent.
Obama, delays...I mean we’re talking into weeks now.

Part of McChrystal’s strategy is basically American soiders die first before “civilians”. Hope to hell you don’t get ambushed if “civis” are near because you will not get support.

McChrystal has as much blood on his hands as Barry.
The time to resign was the minute Barry instructed him to protect the Taliban and the “locals “ at all costs.
Even if it meant US soldiers and Marines had to die in the process.
I am mystified why heads haven’t rolled after the four Marines were sacrificed ( and who knows how many others )
and why we aren’t having Congressional hearings on this ROE debacle.
I’m kidding-I know why-the Democrats and Obama are in charge.
But, couldn’t the Republicans make just a little ,
teeny weeny squeak about this disaster ?

Totally agree on the number of troops. We had over 500,000 troops in VietNam at the height of the war and all it did was increase the number of flag draped cskets coming back home. The same stupidness is going on right now and it will end the same way unless Stanley grows a pair and tells his CIC to stick it. If this idiodic ROE is Stanley’s idea, then David needs to go to.

There is no way to win without a realistic ROE. People, the troop numbers are a misdirection to coverup the ROE debacle. Been there on the VietNam thing in a very personal way.

Only once in 70 days! I was appalled - shame on Obama for such lack of consulting/communication, especially with this general whom Charles said was probably the most brilliant and experienced in the situations we’re in over there.
I saw that and my jaw hit the floor. If we are not going to be fully engaged we need to get out.

Pull out the troops or fight to win—there is no other choice. The “Elected President” is a joke who rules in the Capital only. We should turn it over to a dictator who is popular with his people and let them fight the Taliban. Frankly, I don’t care if these clowns kill each other. I don’t care if they don’t let little girls go to school. Its their nation and they can do what they want.

On another thread, one of the Freepers was very angry ( to say the least ) that he thought McCrystal had not provided air cover for 4 Marines that died. I do not know what he was referring to...ROE.
Well, that is insane, but who is responsbile for these ROE?
Is that out of the commanders’ control or is that part of the strategy of this type of warfare...I don’t remember Petreus doing that in Iraq.
I am getting very confused about HOW we are fighting this war in AFghan. But then, maybe its not me, maybe its how it is being fought.
Also talked about not using airpower on residences even if they are taking fire from those residences, and winning the people over even if it means higher risks for troops.
I say to hell with that, we are there to kill taliban ragheads period, if there is no clear cut way to define victory and the muslim in chief won't support the mission then let the air force and the drones handle any large congregation of targets and get the troops the hell out.
