A surge into what, caves?

Not exactly. Rumsfeld's strategy to move the US military to a lighter and smaller force worked quite well in the invasion of Iraq. The country fell in about three weeks. But it did not work well during the following years of occupation. After Rumsfeld resigned, Bush increased the number of troops in Iraq. That increase of troops worked quite well to stop the attacks by insurgents (I prefer the term terrorist) on civilian and military targets. It began to look like the country might actually be governable.

So, if the strategy of the liberals is a smaller and lighter military force, how does this differ from the Rumsfeld Doctrine?

The liberals do not have a strategy.

I hope you won't find me too forward if I say the liberals do have a strategy. Their strategy is to make the US military so weak that they could not respond to any threat anywhere in the world. That it seems to me is the difference between the Rumsfeld doctrine and the strategy of weakness from the political Left. Rumsfeld was trying to create a smaller military that could respond quickly and effectively anywhere in the world. The Left wants a military so small that it is not effective anywhere at any time. The Leftist police is one of surrender.

Krauthammer is practicaly foaming at the mouth for giving Obama more blood and treasure to continue the Afghan quagmire. At least he’s consistent! From Kosovo to Iraq, he never met a war he didn’t like.

Sounds like the perfect opening for a civilian national security force in the US.

Obama will just cut the military waste and fraud in Afghanistan.

He will inspire the troops with his words and we will do a total withdrawl and then he will declare victory.
