Obama's Support of Tyrants over Democracy's is Putting us in Danger
Weekly Standard/The Lid ^ | 9/17/09 | The Lid

Posted on 09/17/2009 3:55:58 PM PDT by Shellybenoit

Leaders of some of the most oppressive regimes in the world will be coming to New York next week for the annual opening of the UN General Assembly. Tyrants such as Cuba's Castro, Iran's Ahmadinejad, Venezuela's Chavez and China's Hu were all granted visas to enter the country and address the international community. Only one international leader was considered so horrible to be denied a visa, Roberto Micheletti, the interim president of Honduras. The old president, Jose Manuel Zelaya Rosales was removed from office because he tried to overthrow the nation's constitution. This upset the socialist regimes in Latin America so and President Obama sided with the despots south of the border over a nation tryng to hold on to its constitutional democracy.

Today the President gave into years of Russian pressure and canceled the missile shield program, designed to protect former Soviet States Poland and Czechoslovakia who are now fledgling democracies. The President Chose the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Poland to make his announcement. The President made his announcement on Constitution day in the United States. On a day where his country celebrates the freedoms created by its constitution, the Potus capitulated to an oppressive regime and duplicated the actions of Neville Chamberlain by selling out the same allies that Chamberlain did.

So what did the President get for his capitulation? Cooperation on Afghanistan ? How about help with getting Iran to drop its nuke program? A couple of tall Russians for the NBA? NOPE Nothing but a few snickers behind his back.

The President's support of tyrants over democracies has gotten us nothing except making our world more dangerous.

It’s certainly endangering South America and Central America. Democracy seems to be under attack everywhere south of the border, and Obama is helping to fan the flames.

Aren’t we now governed by enemies of freedom? Exactly which freedoms does 0bama support in his actions?

Haven’t the Wilsonian world policers at the Weekly Standard done enough damage to the United States?

I recall a so called republican friend telling me once O was elected he would govern from the middle......that once he talks with the career folks about why we do things the way we do in national security that he would understand and do what is right...that theOne and only O attended harvard and that means he is smart! stupid people do not get into harvard after all...blah, blah.......and that he had joe biden to assist him with foreign policy. this friend supports health care.....I wonder if he is disillusioned yet? Mmmm.....do I wish to bore myself to death if he isn’t? I KNOW he voted for O. Nah.......why bring it up and risk stroking out when I realize he is still an O-fan.

I suspect he harbors desires to become president for life. Like that’ll ever happen.

Like that’ll ever happen. Don't know. These people operate outside anything that I have ever seen in the political sphere.

The US wouldn’t be a superpower if our government’s actions didn’t have an effect for good or ill on other parts of the world, and we do, unquestionably. I don’t endorse every single thing we tell our armed forces to do, but clearly we shouldn’t be doing anything against our own interests, and Obama so far has shown his foreign policy has nothing to do with US interests. Your argument such as it is could apply to Obama himself, as he’s clearly the one who is for putting Honduras in the vice here, not the Weekly Standard.

If that is true, you must be against both Obama's War in Afghanistan and giving him funds to send more troops, right? BTW, I agree with your oppoistion to Obama's Honduras policy.
