When I see the elitists on the left hold themselves up as being smarter than everyone they survey I am always offended. My American can-do spirit is assaulted by such an elitist opinion. It disgusts me when leftists assume that Americans are stupid. I refuse to accept such an assessment. But then there are stories like this
Apparently when the House of Representatives voted to admonish Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.), now famous for calling out that Obama was a liar during his recent healthcare speech, Americans all across the country rushed to their computers and did some research.
Were they looking up arcane House rules of conduct? How about the names of various elected officials? Maybe they were looking up political history?
Uh, no.
No, what Americans rushed to their computers to find out was the definition of the word admonish.
Seriously.
Thousands of Americans did not know the definition of the word admonish!
Now, I have to say this makes Americans look stupid. However, this does not really show stupidity it shows ignorance. And that ignorance is a result of our poor educational system.
So, instead of revealing that Americans are stupid this incident really shows that the problem is with our educational system because it is an utter failure.

“Ya know Bertha, that ‘admonish’ word sounds a lot like ‘impeach’. Is Joe Wilson going to get kicked out?”
“Dunno Harry, but looky here Al Gore invented this wonderful thing called the internet. Let’s go see.”
(As well as silent millions who just pulled out a physical dictionary.)
These people are doing the RIGHT thing. I’d worry far more if nobody was curious about it.
I see america as the people on that luxury cruiser in WallE.
> I am Loath to Call Americans Stupid,
because not all Americans re Democrats.
It is a word that is rarely used in normal adult discourse.
And without spell checker I would have spelled “discourse” wrong. ;)
And what if they voted to “censure” him?

Well, at least you can say that those people were taking an interest and trying to learn what they didn’t learn in skool.
At least they looked it up...
I know what it means, but I’m older than dirt! My education increases in value every day!
I think it is wonderful that they chose not to remain ignorant and they knew how to use references.
Admonish is good on a toasted bun with mayo.
Well, yeah.
The public occasionally has to look up what the definition of “is” is, too.
