I’ve never seen this, but it seems like the kind of movie my little boy and I might like. Is it good?
It is a great movie
It is a most excellent movie, you need to see it. Very well done for the time.
It’s entertaining.
Whenever it’s on TV I end up stopping what I’m doing and watching it. GREAT movie!

I got it on DVD a few years ago and watch it about once a year. I think it is actually a pretty entertaining movie. Some of the messages are a bit overt, but the lessons are good regardless.
It has more staying power than any of the last star wars movies, lethal weapon movies, etc.
It was excellent! I need to go buy the dvd.
Buy the DVD. Watch it on a nice cool fall evening when it is just you and your son......you will both love it.
How old is your “little boy”? there is a lot of killing in it.....you might want to watch it first then decide.
I know that at one time it was rated as the movie with the most killings ever shown in film . I wouldn’t rec. for kids under 12. ( when they can usually legally own a weapon or hunt )
Yes, it’s really good.
The production quality is typical of the 80's, which is a bit lacking by today's standards.
But the plot, script, acting, etc.. All terrific!
Its a very well made, written, directed and acted movie, although there are a few low-budget mistakes.
The main problem is the supposition that a consortium of Mexicans, Russkies, Cubans and other left-wing statists could launch a successful invasion of the USA.
Yes

# Geronimo: An American Legend (1993) (screenplay) (story)
# Farewell to the King (1989) (screenplay)
# Red Dawn (1984) (writer)
# Conan the Barbarian (1982) (screenplay)
# Apocalypse Now (1979) (screenplay)
# The Wind and the Lion (1975) (writer)
# Magnum Force (1973) (screenplay) (story)
# Dillinger (1973) (written by)
# The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean (1972) (original screenplay)
# Jeremiah Johnson (1972) (screenplay)
# Dirty Harry (1971) (screenplay) (uncredited)
OMG, you’ve never heard of Red Dawn? Do you live on a desert island?
In the middle of the cold war, it captured this 13-ish year-old boy's imagination. I'd be a little dubious about showing it to kids much younger than that, but then, I'm stodgy that way.
I saw it just recently; it hasn't aged well. :-) The idea of playing soldier, eating cans of beans three meals a day, and sleeping out in the snow for months at a time just isn't as appealing as when I was 12.
