Judging by the examples that your friend has selected, he/she is clearly either a warmonger or at minimum an enthusiastic supporter of the military-industrial complex. How does he/she reconcile that with touchy-feely socialism?

Pay attention to a few of these tidbits:

This morning I was awoken by my alarm clock powered by socialist electricity generated by the public power monopoly regulated by the US Department of Energy.

According to the US Department of Energy web site, "The Department of Energy (DOE) has one of the richest and most diverse histories in the Federal Government. Although only in existence for a quarter century, the Department traces its lineage to the Manhattan Project and beyond.".

After that, I turned on the socialist radio to one of the FCC regulated channels to hear what the socialist National Weather Service of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration determined the weather was going to be like...

According to the NOAA web site, "Our National Weather Service has its roots in Nineteenth Century science and policy. The Army Surgeon General began a coordinated attempt to obtain weather observations from Army posts as early as 1814, followed by a national network of observers reporting telegraphically to the Smithsonian in the late 1840's and 1850's, and then the establishment of a true National weather observation network under the Army Signal Corps in 1870."

using socialist satellites designed, built, and launched by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration

According to the NASA web site, "NASA's birth was directly related to the pressures of national defense. ... During the late 1940s, the Department of Defense pursued research and rocketry and upper atmospheric sciences as a means of assuring American leadership in technology. ... etc. etc.".

US Naval Observatory

Hmmm... Wonder whether the Naval Observatory might have something to do with the, um, US Navy. Enough said there

set out to work on the socialist roads build by the socialist local, state, and federal departments of transportation

Sounds like a reference to the National Defense Highway System, doesn't it?Former General Dwight Eisenhower sure knew how to build strategic military infrastructure, didn't he?

socialist GPS navigation technology developed by the United States Department of Defense

Did that say, United States Department of Defense? 'Nuff said there...

I then get on my computer and use the socialist internet which was developed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Administration

Let's see - I wonder whether the Defense Advanced Research Projects Administration might have anything to do with the military. That "Defense" word just seems to keep popping up, doesn't it? Etc. etc.

It seems that your friend can trace the origin of so many of these amazing things not to some foolish American dalliance with "socialism", but rather to the US Military and its role in the Defense of the nation as outlined in the Constitution.

So, why is your friend such a warmonger?

It's not that she is a warmonger but maybe because advocates for socialism must have to believe in a strong military in order to keep their own citizens towing the party line.
