There are several reasons why I haven't been nearly as outraged by Obama's speech to school kids on Tuesday as many in the blogosphere on the right. First, I've long been on record as supporting more of Obama's education policy than I oppose. Second, I think everyone should agree that the president can and should be a role model to many children. That's not merely because he's the president. He's overcome a lot in his life. There's plenty of life lessons to be learned from his life story. He overcame a childhood full of chaos. He overcame a period of drug use and irresponsibility and he largely made his success on his own. Bill O'Reilly said as much in what should have been a very non controversial article in parade last month. Finally, and most importantly, I wanted to make sure that I didn't reflexively oppose everything that Obama did simply because it was an Obama proposal. I know that four the better part of eight years there were plenty on the other side that gave that treatment to Bush. I don't believe that everything is wrong simply because Obama proposes it.

Obama says the guy was his mentor. 19 year investigation by the FBI with 600 pages...that stopped the year Kennedy was killed.
The son of Davis ends up working for the Defense Intelligence Agency.
Anything Obama says to kids must be vetted first.
Obama is a man who voted 3 times to allow children who survived and abortion to die from exposure to cold and lack of oxygen on a stainless steel slab in a hospital utility room. If this were done to an adult it would be called torture, and is far worse than putting panties on a prisoner's head and snapping a photo.
Obama supports stabbing scissors into the skulls of children who are already more than half born, scrambling their brains, and sucking the gelatinous mass into a surgical suction jar. ( I wonder if he'll serve cookies and milk with that as he talks to the nation's children?)
Obama supports forcing American citizens to pay for abortion. Luckily, the children in our nation's schools survived the abortion's knife.
So?...Obama is NOT a person I want held up as an example of good citizenship to my county's children.
Did the whitehouse announce the text of the speech when they first announced it? NO.
Did the whitehouse collaborate with the National Education Association about the plans for follow-up activities? I suspect so, but they will not admit it. Has this president filled his administration with radicals, tax cheats, communists, people with hidden and not so hidden agendas? Yes.
Is this a case of opening the door for later "speeches" intended to turn our children into little Obama Youth? Probably. But we caught them early enough that they know they won't get away with it.
They'll back off this time, but they'll be back. Stalin once told his minions "Probe! Probe! Probe! - until you hit steel."
The author misses an important point. The outcry is because many have decided that the man cannot be trusted. An educational encouragement speech by the President would in and of itself be harmless and positive. A speech by Obama, using the Office of the Presidency DAILY to push his agenda and self-aggrandize his image, is no longer entitled to the same presumption of good will, especially when it is accompanied by Government-created lesson plans (since withdrawn) asking for kids to write letters to themselves about "how they can serve President Obama."

A man who pretends to be Christian, pretends to be an American citizen, pretends to be a middle of the roader, a man who pretends to not be a smoker, a man who pretends to be heterosexual and drug free....
Yes, someone MY child needs to look up to as a role model.
