As the Sept. 8th President's Speech draws closer, to be heard by many public school classrooms, I would highly recommend that all freedom loving residents write/email to their school superintendents their opinions about students' classroom time being used for this purpose. See Michael Medved's excellent article about this concern:
Dear Mr. Superintendent,
I am a teacher/parent/grand-parent/guardian of students in your school districts and am deeply concerned that the XXXXXX County schools will be broadcasting an address from the President of the United States during students' class time on September 8th. I have no idea what the content of this address will be, and am unable to vet it as a teacher, parent, grandparent. The politicization of children's education is not something I welcome. The children are not old enough to vote, and are not old enough to formulate political opinions without parents' guidance. Therefore I urgently request that parents/guardians be able to read and view the exact same speech before it is given to students. If this is not possible, then I must insist that these students' normal school day take place on September 8th, without interruption from the President of the United States.
In addition, I have read Department of Education materials suggesting student assignments after the presidential address. There is one suggestion that each student can discuss what he/she can do for the President. I find these suggestions very offensive and believe they run counter to the United States Constitution, which expressly limits the role of the federal executive branch. Students should be getting an education for themselves and their community, and should not be and are not required to do anything for the President. The President is not a king. I must insist that any teacher at the school refrain from suggesting that these children owe any sort of "help" to the President.
Please inform the parents what the school district will do to preserve the relatively non-politicized atmosphere that has, until today, existed in XXXX classrooms.
Considering that the White House is now in panic and damage control mode and probably sterilizing the speech, one will look pretty silly criticizing what will very likely be a tame speech, devoid of political agendas and health care. Think real hard about this one.

Regarding the Presidents speech, September 8th, 2009.
Dear Sir,
I am hereby requesting exemption for Child1 and Child2 from current and future airings of the Presidents September 8th, 2009 speech, pursuant Texas Education Code section 26.010.
According to the letter sent out by Superintendent, X ISD, the Presidents speech will not be televised live, but will instead be taped and distributed to the teachers for later viewing by the students.
The decision to allow it into the schools at all is unfortunate, and leaving the airing at the teachers leisure may make meeting these exemption requests challenging. Considering the now well-documented revelations regarding self-described Communists, tax cheats, Socialists and the apparent Marxist-leanings in President Obamas administration, any school district in Texas allowing the speech to be broadcast is frankly appalling.
Despite all this, the schools cooperation is appreciated in ensuring that both children are excluded from viewing the speech and, if applicable, the associated materials created by the DoE, distributed for use before, during and after the speech. Im not sure the districts decision to not use the associated materials necessarily means that teachers wont do this on their own.
Principals, please contact me to confirm receipt of this letter. Email is preferred, and only a short note is necessary.
Thank you for your time,
Me
It doesn’t matter how lame it is - that’s not the point. One ‘speech’ opens the door to another one - give them an inch and you know the rest. We know their intentions, why pretend we don’t?
