Letter at http://contrapauli.blogspot.com/2009/09/letter-to-public-school-superintendent.html I sent this letter off to my local paper and the superintendent of schools. The next day I noticed a poll in the paper at http://www.freelancenews.com/opinion/Default.asp where 246 had voted, 53% Yes for the President's speech, and 47% NO against the President'speech.

Considering that the White House is now in panic and damage control mode and probably sterilizing the speech, one will look pretty silly criticizing what will very likely be a tame speech, devoid of political agendas and health care. Think real hard about this one.

Regarding the President’s speech, September 8th, 2009.

Dear Sir,

I am hereby requesting exemption for Child1 and Child2 from current and future airings of the President’s September 8th, 2009 speech, pursuant Texas Education Code section 26.010.

According to the letter sent out by Superintendent, X ISD, the President’s speech will not be televised live, but will instead be taped and distributed to the teachers for later viewing by the students.

The decision to allow it into the schools at all is unfortunate, and leaving the airing at the teachers leisure may make meeting these exemption requests challenging. Considering the now well-documented revelations regarding self-described Communists, tax cheats, Socialists and the apparent Marxist-leanings in President Obama’s administration, any school district in Texas allowing the speech to be broadcast is frankly appalling.

Despite all this, the school’s cooperation is appreciated in ensuring that both children are excluded from viewing the speech and, if applicable, the associated materials created by the DoE, distributed for use before, during and after the speech. I’m not sure the district’s decision to not use the associated materials necessarily means that teachers won’t do this on their own.

Principals, please contact me to confirm receipt of this letter. Email is preferred, and only a short note is necessary.

Thank you for your time,
Me
