It’s that time of the year again as we begin to notice slightly cooler temperatures in the morning. It’s also that time of the year when the scent of fresh pigskin begins to permeate the air.

But for anxious Texans fans, this is that time of the year to again ponder: “Is this the year the team finally takes that next step forward? Or will this just become another 16-game trek towards ineptitude and disappointment?”

After a pre-season of erratic play on both sides of the ball, some Texans fans probably feel as though they might already know the answer to this perplexing question.

The pro football season is starting later and later.

The first ‘real’ game used be about the last week in August. Then, it moved to Labor Day weekend/around Sept 1. This year, the first Dallas game, for example, is Sept 13.

Performance during pre-season is irrelevant. The games...and especially the final game of pre-season are intended to evaluate players, not to display the capabilities of the team.

Last night's game expecially was the final cut evaluation of those whose careers are highly questionable.

I will wait to see what happens in the first four regular season games before I decide whether or not they are "the same old Texans."
