Now Charlies in trouble! Yesterday the Washington Post dedicated an editorial consisting of four whopping paragraphs demanding Rangel resign. For what its worth, the piece is here, outlining the laundry list of alleged infractions:
Thursday, September 3, 2009
Sorry, Charlie Rep. Rangel must step aside as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.
... We called on Mr. Rangel to resign his coveted post last November while the House ethics committee probed his contact with a potential donor to a pet project who also had business before the committee. Mind you, that committee already was looking into his using official stationery to raise funds for that pet project, paying below-market rents on four Harlem apartments, failing to report income from a Florida condominium sale and failing to pay taxes on a home in the Dominican Republic. Theres another subcommittee investigation into lobbyist-paid trips by Mr. Rangel and four other members of Congress. [...]
It doesnt make a difference. Aside from just a smattering of local New York papers and this editorial, well probably not see much more media or political pressure on Rangel to resign the Ways and Means Committee, let alone the Senate. He has a D after his name and thats all he needs. Oh, yeah, and hes black too. So hes got dual protection.
Oh, and did you know that while this has all been going on, it has been learned that Rangel snuck into the health care bill legislation that would allow the I.R.S. to inflict heavier penalties on filers who the I.R.S. itself corroborates made honest mistakes in their tax returns? Yup, this guys got chutzpah.
Steve Malzberg tore Rangel a new one in the first hour of yesterdays show. Its quite enraging, but then cathartic, to listen to.

It’s going to take a bull dozier and chains to drag that reprobate out of congress in any manner.
