The incandescent light bulb has only two years to live. As part of the 2007 Energy bill, the bulbs must be phased out between 2012 and 2014. And the bill is already having a negative effect on American Industry:
Last month, GE announced it will close the Winchester Bulb Plant 80 miles west of D.C. As a result, 200 men and women will lose their jobs. GE is also shuttering incandescent factories in Ohio and Kentucky, axing another 200 jobs.
GE blamed environmental regulations for the closing. The first paragraph of the companys July 23 press release explained:
A variety of energy regulations that establish lighting efficiency standards are being implemented in the U.S. and other countries, in some cases this year, and will soon make the familiar lighting products produced at the Winchester Plant obsolete.
The truth is the GE Plant being closed is falling victim of legislation that GE Pushed through.... As for the rest of us, there is a different problem, the fluorescent bulbs just don't give off enough light. The real story is for a very small benefit to the environment, the United States is willing to throw people out of work, and ruin the eyesight of the rest of us:

This is a free country and I have the permits, licenses, stamps, tags, stickers, background checks and tax receipts to prove it.
GE are Obama shills. Disgusting company. BEtter load up on regular light bulbs. What a joke.
This Sh!t really makes me f-ing sick.
I’ve been stocking up on bulbs.
frigging ridiculous.
I’ve been stocking up on the 100w bulbs for future use.
Some of the newer compact fluroscents are actually pretty good. Although the liht quality is still not as good ad regular bulbs. But especially outdoor floods(I have a few) have saved me on my electric bill. I put the CF’s in the basement and outside and my bill has gone down.
GE blamed environmental regulations for the closing.
Regulations they helped write!!!
Dump Immelt and the board at the next shareholders meeting.
Don’t know about the light bulbs but these 1.5 gallon toilets aren’t cutting it....
Rumble.
Excuse me.
For me the flours’s = instant migraine headache. I can take about forty minutes before the aura’s start and then it is Fiorcet and bed rest.
Time to start hoarding!
How long are they good for?
...terrorists, murderers, drunkards, commiecritters, liars, ineligible presidential candidates, czars, treason...
They are miserable, neglected, self-loathing, envious, vengeful, souls that just want all of humanity to suffer and die.
And we all know where they get THAT from.
But they stupid looking spaghetti bulbs are awful in chandeliers and cannot support a chandelier shade. I hope some country continues to make them and exports them. I pray I don’t have to drive to Mexico to get bulbs.
But hasn't your electric company already installed the "Smart Meters" in you area? They have here..and it's all about controlling our useage in the near future. Imagine the long arm of the government throwing the main switch on your house because you went over your peak for that hour.
It's not about saving energy--its about controlling the little people. Had enough of this yet?
"Green" is the New Red.
Stock up while they’re cheap.
Yep, those green jobs sure are helping families.
Mahogany furniture looks by far the best under incandescent light.
Further, these flourescent lights will aggravate seasonal affective disorder in northern locations—where, by the way, the heat from incandescent bulbs does not go to waste.
So instead of a single 60 watt bulb to heat the pump house or the chicken house I will now need to install heaters.
We started hoarding bulbs a few months ago.... I refuse to change over.
Well that’s fine and dandy, it’s your right. If it suits, you, cool.
What isn’t ok is the government taking away our options, especially when there are clear practical reasons for having it.
Besides, CFL’s have mercury. The jury is still out on whether this is ‘better for the environment.’ and that’s only if you buy into Global Warming nonsense in the first place.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
