“A lawsuit was filed against Beretta U.S.A. Corp. and Cook County Sheriff Michael Sheahan, among other defendants, claiming that the gun maker failed to warn users that simply removing the clip did not render the gun safe.”

I’m a “wheel gun” guy, but I find it hard to believe that this is not covered in the literature one receives when buying a Beretta. Is this true?

Every semi-automatic weapon I have ever purchased (and that's quite a few) contains multiple warnings within the operating manual, including one in LARGE TYPE indicating that removing the magazine does not in and of itself make the weapon safe as a round may remain loaded in the chamber.

Treat all guns as if they are loaded. Never point a gun at anything you are not willing to destroy. Keep your finger out of the trigger guard and off the trigger until you have a target in your sights that you are willing to destroy. When making the weapon "safe", be sure to open the action and remove any rounds that might be loaded in the chamber.

Every single one of these warnings appears, in one form or another in every safety manual accompanying every gun I have ever purchased. Not that it matters to the Tort Pimps.

It is covered in the literature.

#1 rule of gun safety is treat all weapons as if they are loaded.
