The protestor argued with him quite logically (and made the officer look like the fool he is), but no, he did not resort to any violence.

Perhaps he could have gotten himself arrested but the video makes that fairly unnecessary.

He spoke up and questioned the situation as much as he could. But since he probably didn’t want to get arrested, it appears he did not pick the sign up. If he had decided to hold the signs again and get arrested - the story may have made big news because the charges would not have made sense - ‘trespassing’?
