Last weekend a nice cool shot sank southward out of Canada and encompassed much of the eastern half of the nation. Looks like another and likely stronger surge of early autumn air will sink through the Eastern U.S. through much of the next 7-days.

I’m in the mountainous south, and I don’t remember a cooler summer (or a cooler spring) than 2009. The night lows, in particular. My AC bill is dramatically lower this year than last. (I have made some energy improvements, but still—)

I remember a cool wave like this one, that dropped into
the eastern seaboard, in late August of ‘76.

We went into an early fall that was followed by a brutal
winter in the East, Northern tier and central.

Ditto...here in the Coachella Valley we could hit 114 today (it's 110 already at 12:30) and 116 tomorrow and Saturday.

We went to an outdoor funeral in Riverside on Tuesday, and I was the only guy who wore a suitcoat -- it was only 97.

“Needed a jacket”

Interesting. When the cool wave of ‘76 hit, I was visiting
my brother in Atlanta.

We woke up that morning to a chilly, gray day.

Fall 1976 into early 1977 is one of the analog years I am using for this year’s Fall and Winter Outlooks.
