As an attempt to concentrate America's minds on the greater goal, it could have gone better.
During his remarks at a national health care forum, the president came out with this:
"There's something about August going into September where everybody in Washington gets all wee-weed up. I don't know what it is. But that's what happens."
He wasn't the only one who was confused.
Jimmie Bise gave it to him straight: “Really, Mr. President? Wee-weed? What in the blue hells does that mean?”
Meanwhile, Michelle Malkin was wracking her brains: “Is this some Chicago phrase I don’t know about? Is it just a nonsensical scatological reference? Maybe it’s some sort of SEIU code phrase?”
Online forums, rapidly thrown together by concerned members of the public, threw up a couple of suggestions:
Were Washingtonians drinking too much coffee? Was he referring to people getting hysterical (as in ‘peeing their pants’), or was it really “a variant of late 70’s Marijuana smoker slang", meaning to smoke dope until you go a little crazy?
Mary Katherine Ham explained that “he was probably telling us yet another story about profiteering doctors. This time, urologists, who are infamous for taking excessive urine samples from patients for extra cash."
But Pundette was still plagued by the memory of “that last little piggy who cried wee wee wee all the way home. In this case it’s Obama who’s protesting, with good reason, as his poll numbers plummet and his agenda flounders.”
It wasn't long till a Twitter feed was born. It is now 16 hours since @weeweedup trumpetted that "It's official. The WH [White House] transcribes it as "wee-weed up." Hyphen, but no apostrophe". But the twittering shows no sign of slowing.
A quick Google search now throws up over 65,000 references - virtually all of them

But don’t expect to hear it on Letterman’s “Great Moments from Presidential Speeches”.
