Obama's Lie a Slap in the Face to Every Decent American

Barack Obama's sheer audacity in demonstrating his callous disregard and distaste for average, hard-working Americans knows no boundaries. Never is this more true than when he's attempting to demonize one segment of the population in order to play one group of people against another, a tactic which is growing old in a hurry.

Investors Business Daily noted the following today:

Speaking in New Hampshire last week, Obama said "family care" physicians collect "$30,000, $40,000, $50,000" for amputations while the reimbursement for helping patients lose weight, watch their diets and monitor their medication is "a pittance."

You can read at the source just how untrue this statement is, but that's not the point. That should be obvious on its face to anyone who knows anything about the American people. I hadn't heard this statement before today, because nobody had bothered to make a big deal out of it, but Obama's implication that doctors would rather cut off part of a patient's body than offer treatment is simply horrifying. It reveals three possible lines of thinking, at least one of which Obama clearly believes, and all are monstrous.

Well, surgeons (NOT "family care" physicians) have more specialized training and there's more at stake when removing a limb. A GP's counseling charge IS, relatively, a pittance. What's his point?

That the medical profession intentionally lets patients get to the worst case just so they can take off a limb?

I agree. It expresses a sickening contempt for private sector business and the people who operate them.

I saw a letter from the association representing the surgeons that do the amputations. The ‘profit’ is vastly overstated as is the predisposition to cut peoples limbs off.

Not only is this a vicious slander against the medical profession, it is laughably false. By the time a patient reaches the office of a surgeon as a candidate for amputation, it is far too late to counsel diet and exercise. The people who would do that counseling are internists or family doctors, who would not be able to profit in any way from an amputation.

Doctors endure years of arduous training, and are among the smartest and most dedicated people in society. They fight to get the best outcome for their patients. They can advise, but they can't compel their patients to do the right thing. If patients won't reform their behavior, they may well end up with catastrophic consequences, but it is seldom the doctor's fault.
