AARP Loses at Least 60,000 Members Due to Support for Obamacare
USA Today/The_lid ^ | 8/18/09 | The Lid

Now we understand why the AARP made the statement last week that it has not endorsed the Obamacare plans. After months of working toward the passage of the bill (which it is still doing, but more "quietly") The AARP,which is run by liberals who favor national health car has been backing away from support for Obamacare. By acting as an advocate of the President's plan AARP has proven itself to be out of touch with its own members. Those seniors have figured out that their own health and lives are at stake in this debate over Obamacare. They know that when medical discretion clashes with limited government budgets, medicine loses, and that's why at least 60,000 members have quit since July 1:

Good idea! I have time on my hands some days, maybe I’ll do both! Sign up, then cancel AND send them stuff back and make them pay the cost.

Just gravel? Countless Americans have cats. Cats have catboxes. Let them know what your cat thinks.

“What’s the alternative to AARP?”

I don't know that there needs to be an alternative!

I learned many years ago to really look into all the “organizations” that are supposed to do so much “good” for their members before joining ANY of them!

I never joined AARP as I learned they were nothing more than another arm of the Democrat Party. They should be called “Americans Against Retired People” since they never have represented their members!

It is great to see that members of AARP are starting to realize that their membership dues have been used to promote Socialist policies. I hope more seniors drop their membership in AARP and use the dues money towards a nice dinner out!

If you click on them, doesn’t AARP get billed for the add clicks?

That tally omits the hundreds of thousands who never joined in the first place or quit years ago due to the allegiances of AARP

I saw some clown on FOX denying that AARP(up) was endorsing obummers health care fiasco. The commercial that followed was sponsored by AARP(up) with the ambulance being obstructed by the repubs.

Dump liberal newspapers, dump liberal magazines, dump liberal organizations and dump liberal businesses.

When an organization works against our beliefs - against us - against our children and our way of life - it's foolhardy to support them with our dollars.

The AARP works against traditional conservative Americans.

I cancelled my medical supplemental with them, then hung and sent and email canx my membership and spelled out why. I got an Obambi talking points email back asking me to reconsider....I forwarded that to flag@whitehouse.gov. Loved it....and I’d be willing to bet if they’re admitting 60,000 quit it’s a whole lot more.....

I have their medicare coverage and I don't think I can drop that until the next open enrollment. I don't think I have to belong to AARP though to have the United Health Care coverage I have. Memo to self: Find out what I can do to impress on AARP how unhappy I am with them.

The one I had said you had to be a member of AARP. I’ve got great coverage from BCBS but I think we all need a supplemental. I’m going by my insurance guy tomorrow and see what they offer.

I’m thinking one you’ve signed up for the supplemental coverage you can drop your AARP membership. I remember having to belong to get them to talk to me, but I don’t recall having renewed my membership since. I’ll check and find out.

So much for their claim of non-endorsement of Obamacare.
As they used to say on the X Files, “Trust no one.”
