God has everything to do with it. Wanting to base everything on personal opinion is the relativism that has gotten us into this mess. “We all have our own opinion. There is no absolute truth or morality.” That is what the government schools and the intellectual/cultural establishment have been promulgating for decades. You are a product if that. If you are not willing to base and defend your opinion on some sort of objective, absolute authority or system of thought, then it is pretty worthless. Pure emotion.
I will say it again: Taking pleasure in the killing or harming of animals is demeaning and ugly. Destruction is bad.
And what are you insinuating by invoking God and that He should help me? That I need to go to confession for expressing my opinion? The my opinion has somehow offended God?
Here’s my consistency — hunting is a legal activity (though poaching is not). Meat eating is a legal activity (unless you steal the meat). Wearing leather is a legal activity. The cruel and sadistic killing of dogs is not legal. It’s also, in my opinion, immoral. I have no idea how many people who want to see Vick destroyed are avid hunters. I do, however, have a sense that MOST of them would not engage in illegal activities such as dog figthing. I don’t agree with your statement that these people want to see Vick destroyed. Destroyed is an awfully strong word.
I wonder about that. The NFL seemed determined to get Vick back into the league, but most teams & team owners considered him to be 'radioactive'. Then there were a few rumors that the Pats might be considering him. The Steelers were also mentioned. The Eagles finally took the plunge.
Assuming the rumors were true, what do these teams have in common? 2 things:
1) They are all playoff teams with a pretty good shot at the Superbowl this year, and
2) Each has an established starting quarterback (so Vick probably won't play much, if at all).
If the league wanted to take him back, but wanted him 'buried', they certainly did a good job of it.
For those of you castigating Vick so viciously, I would like to ask you whether his punishment was fair as compared to Donte Stallworth who spent 24 days in jail and suspended for one year for manslaughter?
Precisely. In my value system, God has EVERYTHING to do with it. My “worthless” absolute authority for my opinion is God.
Stallworth’s should hve been more severe than Vick’s, but neither was anywhere near adequate in my opinion.
So you are a proponent of legal positivism?! Morality is determined by legality?! Therefore abortion is moral. Killing Jews in Germany in 1944 was moral.
Yes saying that people want to see Michael Vick destroyed is strong language.
Can’t you get it into your head. I find harming animals repugnant. I feed carrots to the bunnies who come into my yard. About 8 pounds per week. I somehow put man above animals. Rather an old fashioned idea. I am out of touch with this new modern era. So I will end my discussions with you.
Surely this is the most idiotic. You say burn down their own house(yes) but then you add on a clear instance of fraud. Run down someone with their own car. Murder. Try to think will you. You confuse a person's right to drive their own property with murder. Blast your stereo all night? Sure if there are no neighbors onto whose property the sound will travel.
You wrote absolutely nothing that made any sense.
I agree with you, and I hunt and eat bunnies :)
PETA has won on FreeRepublic. Most everyone here CLAIMS that the only moral laws are those that protect the rights of the individual but few actually mean it.
I love dogs but they’re not people and they have no rights to protect. I would never hurt them but every dog I’ve OWNED was my property which I’m free to do with as I please.
If you disagree, fine but consider my original claim...if moral laws aren’t based on the protection of individual rights then what are they based on?
Thanks. It is nice to know that there are still those who cling to reason and a consistent morality. I have no problem with your hunting and eating bunnies. Just stay out of my yard, you murderer :)
Have a terrific weekend!
Boo
Excellent point! Everyone here in Tidewater, VA, where Vick is from thinks this is GREAT! He and his family are major dysfunctional! If Osama Bin LaLa made TDs for the NFL, half this country would give him the benefit of the doubt!!!!! (Don’t flame...I LOVE NFL football...)
Rex - he has a bunch - he just doesn’t marry the mothers....
Exactly! If someone is a pedophile and serves time, do we dust off the hands and say, “Oh he/she has paid her debt to society”. Yes but they don’t get the keys to the nursery, right?
How about pleasure at eating them?
Given that he’s still got a bunch of creditors wanting money and has to run his financial plans through a judge I don’t think he’d be allowed to do that. He has taken an 84% pay cut.
I take pleasure in eating meat. Killing the animal is a necessity. I take out the garbage every day. Don’t particularly enjoy it. Likewise cleaning toilets. I like clean toilets. Derive no thrill from cleaning same. Any more questions? This is easy.
I agree with you.
It reminds me of two trials that happened close to each other a few years ago. A 16 year-old girl murdered a 12 year-old girl and was given 18 months probation. A 17 year-old boy killed a puppy and was given 2 years in the slammer.
Puppies over people!
Hey, you’re the one who said “people are free to do with their property as they see fit.” Then you use my post to contradict yourself. Try again.
