Here is video today of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich on This Week standing up for former Gov. Sarah Palin's statement that she does not want to turn over decisions about life and death matters to "Obama's Death Panel," referring to Government Bureaucrats who could have the final say as to what treatments or procedures are "appropriate" for people to get.
George Stephanopoulos asked Gingrich what he thought about her comment as if he expected Gingrich to repudiate it. Gingrich did not. Stephanopoulose seemed disbelieving when Gingrich said that Palin's concern is well-founded since the brother of the President's Chief of Staff has advocated rationing care from those who are too old or too sick to justify spending huge amounts of money on. Stephanopoulos argued that such ideas are not in the plan, but Gingrich pointed out that the "plan" sets up all kinds of new agencies and could easily be manipulated into a kind of passive "euthanasia" when people with such views have power and influence in the Government. . . . . Thanks!
Thanks!
The tactic is to try and get other republicans to denounce or distance themselves from Palin. Yesterday someone on FOX tried to bait Huckabee into distancing himself from Palin. Last week Pawlenty was baited, but didn’t take the bait. This is so that the dems as well as David Frum can keep saying that Palin is divisive. I’m betting that the dems and Frum (same thing) are pulling their hair out, because the only people they can get to directly attack Palin are Romney people, and they are getting pretty stale.
We need an under 15/over40 group to vs. AARP (nonprofit of course)
Given he is best friends with Rahm Emanuel and speaks with him daily on a conference call with Carville, he had absolutely no credibility.
And you are against him being supportive of Sarah Palin... why??
A man who does a global warming commercial with pelosi, sings Hillary’s praises is not my idea of a leader.
He likes bandwagons, something Sarah Palin is not.
>>>>> First newt jumps on pelosis bandwagon and does a global warming commercial, and now hes jumping on Sarahs bandwagon. <<<<<
Words cannot express how monumentally idiotic your statement is.
That does not mean we should criticize him for supporting something Palin said, especially when the worst of the worst pundits is trying to get him to do just that.
There can be a difference between giving Newt his props for being one of the Republicans’ brightest, most articulate and sometimes most forceful defender and promoter of ideas—e.g., applause and appreciation all around for Newt today—and thinking therefore that the baggage of his career and personal choices must therefore be sufficiently small to back him as a presidential candidate.
“Stephanopoulus is a liar. READ THE DARN BILL.”
The new talking points at the town halls is that there is no bill yet, therefore they cannot comment on it (although they were all willing to vote on the nonexistent bill). They truly do think we’re idiots.
Anyway, thanks Newt - you probably won’t be invited back after making a fool of Stephi. That look of shock was priceless. You can almost see the blood leaving his face.
>>>> Uh, Newt has always been very supportive of Sarah, so I don’t know where you are getting that. <<<<<
This is just one of the many many whackadoodle anti-Newt fictions that are propagated by the alleged “conservatives” on FR.
Marital infidelity was Newt's downfall. He will never be president for that reason. Sorry but that's a fact.
>>>>> Marital infidelity was Newt’s downfall. He will never be president for that reason. Sorry but that’s a fact. <<<<
Most of us would agree that you have an opinion.
>>>>> I haven’t really laid out my reasons here on FR as to why it will be a Palin/Gingrich ticket in 2012, but I will in detail at some point. <<<<<
If Newt has the humility to accept the VP spot I agree it would be a good ticket.
>>>> This vicious cycle can only be defeated by using AMERICAN oil, gas, coal, and nuclear energy. Then we won’t be at the mercy of OPEC and oil speculators! <<<<
There’s also the simple supply and demand issue which is impacted by China and India industrialization and ... more cars in those countries.
China is has been buying massive oilfield rights in Iran for the last 10 years. But it also has several multi-reactor nuke sites and lots of coal-fired electric plants being built and coming on line.
The new Indian Tata car is not electric or alcohol based. It runs on gasoline.
By the way France is also building more new nuke plants.
Obama stopped Yucca Mountain research. There is no new offshore drilling. ANWR is dead for the moment. Coal plants are out.
All “green” energy replacements are absolutely ridiculous from a capacity perspective. Preposterous that any of them (even ALL of them together) could provide even 1 percent of our needs.
This is not a tenable or sustainable situation for America.
