ObamaEcon 101: Chapter I – Clunkernomics
LuckyBogey's Blog ^ | Auguest 4, 2009 | LuckyBogey

This is a true story. This could only happen in America!

In 2001, I wanted to buy a SUV and I purchased a used 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4×4 Limited with 80,000 miles for $7000 cash. I named my Jeep “Clyde” after the previous owner. This is a Southern thing. We like to give names to our things!

Now, being the Capitalist, I decided to research “Clunkernomics” to see if this new ObamaEcon model might be a good program after all since the liberals, the American media, and Obama supporters keep talking about how this is the greatest President since Kennedy.

I called the local Honda deal down on Abercorn Street. For those unfamiliar with the metro Savannah area, Abercorn Street is very congested and sometimes it take at least five minutes to go from one mall to the other mall. Sometimes we receive notices of “Hot Spots” on the radio (i.e. Police radar hideouts).

...Remember, I paid $7,000 in 2001. Now in 2009, I have over 200,000 miles on Clyde and the Federal government will give me $4,500 and the dealership will also get $4,500 for a grand total of $9,000. Only in America! I finally understand what Don King means!

...The only sad part is that Jack told me they would need to kill Clyde. I asked that this be done quickly. Jack informed me that they use a special liquid poured into the engine (See below Clunker FAQ) and it would be very quick. I really feel bad about this for Clyde has always been there for me and always ensured my safe return home. I have to sleep on this decision. I still love Clyde and please don’t think bad of me if Clyde only has one road left to travel.

Big questtion?

Just how many “new” cars are out there in the dealer lots to be sold? Are there the 250,000 to match the first 1 billion in cfc cash?

If they authorize another 2 billion, are there another 500,000 new cars siting in lots?

Cute article, but I have a serious question. Is it ethical to accept "Cash for Clunkers" money?

I'm uneasy receiving stolen property, and the tax dollars that obama is giving away were taken from our neighbors and from our children without their informed consent, taken for a frivolous and unconstitutional purpose. I have serious issues with accepting that money. On the flip side, working Americans (i.e., conservatives) will be losing a whole lot more than $4500 to obama's socialist plans, and it may be appropriate to accept this sleazy money to reduce the overall financial loss to the druggie's socialist programs.

I know I won't be accepting any of that money, in part because I won't be buying a new car for as long as the socialist is in our White House, but I'm curious what others think of this question. Any thoughts?

What about all the liberals who bought low mileage Honda's and Toyota's - they don't get a dime for their old clunkers...

I thought that you had to buy a new car in order for this money to be available? If you didn’t have car payments before on Clyde, you will on the Stranger, won’t you?

Change that from a car named Clyde to a Grandpa named Clyde and now you have ObamaCare. This is the new AmeriKa of Obama. The new United Socialist States of AmeriKa.

The only sad part is that Jack told me they would need to kill Grandpa Clyde. I asked that this be done quickly. Jack informed me that they use a special liquid Drug poured into Grandpa Clydes mouth and it would be very quick. I really feel bad about this for Grandpa Clyde he has always been there for me and always cared for me.
I have to sleep on this decision. I still love Grandpa Clyde and please donÂ’t think bad of me if Grandpa Clyde only has one more day to live. I gave his life to Obama care.

I’m with you TurtleUp.

As far as I’m concerned for my own conscience, I think it’s immoral to take part in thievery. Even if I’m one of the thieves’ victims, I still won’t receive stolen property to make up for it. I’d rather be poor man with a clear conscience than a reprobate rich man.

I will also never buy another car made by union thugs.

bareford/George: From the Clunker FAQ:

Currently, the language of the proposed bill is only for new car purchases... You can buy any new car: foreign or domestic... The purchased vehicles, which must be new (2008, 2009, 2010 models)

I also read that the new bill may include Used vehicles up to 5 years old. Need to verify. If that is approved, we may be able to get a very good used vehicle cheap.

TurtleUp: I understand and share your feelings. The money is going to be spent either way, why not us also?? We are paying either way...

There is only ONE rebate from the Gov’t paid, not two. The dealer doesn’t get $4500.00 from the Gov’t. You must be confused with a manufacturer or dealer rebate.

The dealer only gets his profit on the sale, and a maximum of $50.00 “administration fee” of the salvage amount.

BTW, don’t forget, the dealer must pay you the salvage amount, less his 50. Right now the going rate is around .07 per pound.

Times are hard for many people, including Conservatives. If one is in a bad situation, and needs the help, I would have no problem with them for taking what’s being offered.

Thank you. I have corrected the post to reflect only the one payment back to the dealer. Gave credit to “papsmurf” without naming FR.
