Nah, we don’t need a boost to the Mortuary industry. Didn’t you know that’s in the plan to help cut health care costs?
To: mewzilla
Just out of curiosity, I would be interested to see the income distribution of the people participating in this program. I wonder if anyone is keeping those stats...

It’s this time around’s version of milk being poured down the drain during the depression. Same thing with the idea of razing sections of ‘underpopulated’ cities.

Yet, here were are, destroying cars for pieces of silver. It's not for silver. It's for debt certificates printed out of thin air by a private banking cartel.
This program destroys perfectly good running cars that the poor could actually afford.
How long until people see that the government is nothing but evil?
Audit the fed. Then abolish it. Destroy the lifeblood of tyranny.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/2305722/posts These are sad times we live in. Contact your representatives! Let them know how you feel! Email and contact the various Talking heads. In my opinion, the worst part of this C4C deal is the destruction of perfectly good autos! This needs to be hammered for all to see over and over!

...program to burn down your existing house...They do. It was that cap and trade bill that required you to bring an existing house up to some arbitrary level of environmental compliance before selling it. Last year I sold a house that had parts that were over one century old. How much do you think it would cost to bring it up to compliance?
I'm glad I was able to sell it.
And some people still fly the flag and claim we live in a free country. Wake up, you're a slave. We saw the road to serfdom and said "Time for a road trip".

I believe you have to own the car for so long (6 months? 12?) before you can turn in your clunker.
It shot up to $4500 for the guy who put the ad in the paper.

Yes I know it hasn’t gotten through the senate yet. That it is even considered in this country indicates just how far into bondage to the state we have gotten ourselves.

KBB.com only goes back to 1989, but a 1989 BMW 5 Series 535i automatic in excellent condition with 214,000 miles has a suggested retail value of $3650.

Red Barchetta by Rush:
My uncle has a country place
That no one knows about.
He says it used to be a farm
Before the Motor Law.
And on Sundays I elude the Eyes,
And hop the Turbine Freight
To far outside the Wire
Where my white-haired uncle waits.

If it’s older than 25 years, it doesn’t qualify for the program, so early ‘80s and older cars will be untouched by this lunacy.

I saw some sites that listed the energy required to produce a new car in the 100 million BTU range. Each gallon of gasoline has around 120,000 BTUs of energy, so the car's production takes the energy equivalent of 833 gallons of gasoline. If the typical driver jumps from 20 to 25 mpg for 12000 miles per year, that would save 120 gallons or a 7 year energy payoff. Not worth it for a "clunker" which might not last that long.

It's our modern, wasteful "throw away" society now enshrined in official government policy. This is not my father's generation where you took care of your belongings, worked to fix them when they broke, and used them for a long time to both "get your money's worth" from them as well as to manage resources to be frugal and efficient.
No more. Now it's - OMG it's scratched - throw it away and get a new one. Or, YUK it's all dirty (because I'm a lazy POS that didn't take care of it) - throw it away and get a new one. How ironic that this government policy that represents an enormous waste of the earth's resources and energy is now the law of the land, put into place by the same liberals who supposedly are disgusted by wasting resources. Hypocrisy on parade.
Free cars, free houses, free health care... The Santa Claus government marches on.

I don't know where you are with the whole Christian faith thing. I'm at the old "Thou shalt not steal" thing. When we take money from our children and give it to people who didn't earn it, that worries me. When we do it to pay them to destroy something of value, I have trouble putting the program in any category milder than "evil". I'm not a big fan of minding outer people's business either, but when it's our children who are paying and a socialist who hates our country and our children who is ordering the waste, I feel that it's time to get involved.

You are completely correct. The klunker issue is a window into their thinking. Our masters are destroying America Because they can. Because they will hurt people by doing so, and they relish the pain caused in others by doing so. Further they are intellectually incapable of creating a new order on their own. Rather than recognize how well our system works and how our rights stem from God, they believe in the old Godless Marxist Utopian ideology even when the countries that previously embraced it have discarded it. Indeed these countries are begging us not to go down that road. They are fashioning our slave collars and attaching the chains and my liberal friends are simply not capable of seeing it.

Nick Clites, who is in charge of used cars for the dealership, was prepping a 1988 BMW 535IS, with 214,000 miles on the odometer, for its death. He drained the oil, then donned a silky blue protective suit, goggles and gloves and poured a sodium silicate solution into the engine. He revved the car, and within a few seconds, the solution hardened into a glass-like substance, the engine seized up and the car was dead.
With just a little editing this could also be a description of Obamacare...maybe this whole program is a just a precursor...just to get us in the mood.
I also see some shades of Brave New World in this program regarding thoughtless consumption.
