Here is fascinating video from MSNBC's Morning Joe today where a panel of the regulars got into a rather animated back-and-forth about the arrest of Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates by a Cambridge, Massachusetts police officer, and President Obama's saying the Cambridge police "acting stupidly."
The panel appeared to wind up divided on the issue by race, with all the African-American panelists flatly saying the officer was wrong and being totally defensive of Gates and the remarks of President Obama. Mike Barnacle and Mika Brzezinski tried to challenge those assumptions and defended the officer as having a job to do and reminding everyone of the fact Gates was reportedly yelling at and berating the officer as being a "racist," even to the point of following the officer out of the house and continuing to yell at him when the officer was leaving. It was after that the arrest was made.
The divisions on this MSNBC panel, which is usually uniformly supportive of Obama, shows just how divisive an issue this is becoming. . . . . (Watch Video)

Then let’s pull the cops out of the black communities. The blacks can run their own communities without the white man interfering....let’s see where that gets them.
Exactly.
This is called “de-policing” and black usually complain about it about a month after the anti-police protests end.
On FOX, Juan Williams was uncharacteristically fair-minded on the issue on last night’s panel.
I watched CNN at the end of the presser.
The black anchor was pissed off. This could get fugly.
Why wasn’t Gates cited for “hate speech” against the white cop (and his Momma)?
Every black person in that conversatin WILLINGLY disregarded the EVIDENCE.
The asshole followed the cop of the house, still yelling at him.
Both black guys ignored and even tried to obfuscate that FACT.
Until black American steps up and acknowleges the facts, it’s difficult for the rest of America to acknowlege a history of racism.
The whole issue of race is like a just-barely-healed scab. Some people cannot resist picking at it, some people understand that if left alone, it will at least tend towards healing. Once healed, it may indeed leave a mark and that mark may never disappear completely. But some never want to give it a chance to heal.
I’ve said it before, but IMO Obama will set race relations back 50 years in this country. And I’m sad to think that way.
and vice versa, I might add:
If we cannot accept that there was and IS racism, we cannot see truly discriminatory/racist situations for what they are.
The problem is that it’s the excuse of first resort.
Yes, it’s hard to respect people who disregard the facts, no matter what color they are. People who are blindly supporting Gates are just making themselves look foolish.
Well then we would have DETROIT!
On FOX, Juan Williams was uncharacteristically fair-minded on the issue on last night’s panel.
I believe that BHO wishes that he's never spoken out in this matter - he'll never admit that though.
Exactly...I heard at least 4 black pundits last night claim Gates was arrested inside his home for B&E even after he identified himself. Which, if you read the police report, is patently false.
‘On FOX, Juan Williams was uncharacteristically fair-minded on the issue on last nights panel. ‘
Was surprised to hear that, but at times Juan does come up with a sensible response.
I think deep down he’s wondering “ Barry why did you have to get into a racial issue, when you could easily give a no comment, and be a real president”
Even Gates himself said, on some Tom Joyner show, that when he came out of the house, “it looked like there was a police convention”.
So, we’ve got plenty of witneesses.
Gates better formulate a plan.
There are two black communities that deserve de-policing.
Over the Rhine in Cincinnati
Benton Harbor, Michigan
Probably Overtown in Miami too.
I am sure there are others.
“Never let a crisis [sic] go to waste.”
African-American panelists flatly saying the officer was wrong.Race baiters never split.
