Blue Dogs in the Spotlight

When this health care debate is over, we are going to know if our Congress is Democratic or Conservative. The irony of the Democrats' majorities is that ideologically they have no majorities. The Blue Dog Democrats are often more Conservative than many Republicans. They have to be because their districts vote in a manner that would never accept anything but a conservative voting record. Many of the Blue Dogs got into office in 2006. They were recruited by the liberal, now Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel in one of the shrewdest political move in history. The Blue Dogs attacked most of their Republican opponents for losing their fiscal conservatism. It worked because in 2006 the Republicans had spent their way into six years of oblivion. As such, if they now turn around and sign onto several big spending programs, they will themselves be attacked for a liberal spending plans by other Republicans running as a true fiscal conservative.

Don’t trust a blue dog. They just talk about protecting you all the while they are the one slipping the knife into your back.

Here is my “blue dog” sign idea for protest. A blue dog with a water hose pointed on it revealing it’s yellow hide stamped with “Property of Pelosi” on it! I hafta work tomorrow so I cannot protest.

Someone’s just trying to blow smoke up our @$$ with this article. If there are blue dog Democrats that can stop a bill from being passed, then why was TARP passed? What was Cap and Trade passed?

most Blue Dogs voted against C&T. It was the 7 reps that helped that move forward. TARP passed during economic uheavel and a president that was very popular, and I assume when you say tarp you mean the stimulus, because tarp is the program that Bush passed.

A week long 4th of July holiday at home, suffering the wrath of constituents over their yes vote for the Cap and Tax bill, made the Blue B*ll Rats squirm!

We will see. I would disagree. They won’t get re elected following a liberal agenda.

first of all, unless you live in three districts at once, you couldn’t vote for all of them. Second of all, just because you didn’t vote for them doesn’t mean that they will cave on health care.

Second of all, just because you didn’t vote for them doesn’t mean that they will cave on health care.

They will cave if they're forced to, this is all planned out ahead of time. Most likely they won't have to because there will be enough GOP turncoats to provide the "blue dogs" with cover so they can go back home and claim how conservative they are.

A blue dog's "conservative" vote doesn't mean anything unless it defeats liberal legislation. When the Dems have more than enough votes to pass something, they give a number of blue dogs permission to vote against it, so they can pretend to be conservative.

We know that the worst Senate RINOs (Spector, Collins, and Snowe) are really liberal, because they actually cause liberal legislation to pass. Of course Spector's not a RINO anymore, since he decided to stop hiding his donkey ears.

most Blue Dogs voted against C&T.

Doesn't mean a damn thing, since it passed. They do that to fool people like you.

It was the 7 reps that helped that move forward.

Actually, it was 8 Republicans. If they hadn't gotten 8, some of the "blue dogs" would have had to change their votes to pass it.

TARP passed during economic uheavel and a president that was very popular, and I assume when you say tarp you mean the stimulus, because tarp is the program that Bush passed.

Both TARP and Porkulus were very unpopular with real fiscal conservatives. By the way, Presidents don't "pass" legislation, that is done by legislatures, Presidents sign or veto it. You are correct, however, in your implication that Bush's support was critical to getting the fiasco started. I wonder what would have happened if he had appointed a Republican as Treasury Secretary.

The Blue Dogs will add a few worthless amendments, Big Media will throw them a few bouquets, and all the Democrats in congress will vote for socialized medicine.

Uh, from your responses it sounds like you are rather protective of your blue dog associates. And for your info, one is a rep in my district, another the senator from my district and the other is just a clown that only speaks pseudo-conservatively when it’s necessary to fool the voters back home. Now really, what’s your DU moniker?
