Yanqui, Don't Go Home! Race, Gender, Oil and Honduras
Politics Daily ^ | 07/14/2009 | Carl Cannon

Too bad we're fixated on Michael Jackson (not my thing) and Sarah Palin (mea culpa) because the power play taking place right now in little ole Honduras has a bit of everything, including the politics of race, gender, oil, democracy, and Yankee imperialism. Toss into our high-drama soap opera a Nobel Laureate, the human lightning rod known as Hillary Clinton, a martyred Honduran boy, and the first black president of the United States, and, well, the Honduras coup has something for everyone.

Gen. Romeo Vásquez Velásquez, who heads Honduras' military, refuses this order, which he considers illegal.

Which he considers illegal because the SC rules it so and the AG informs him that he will prosecute anyone who goes forward with the "referendum."

Mel fires him. The Honduras Supreme Court orders him reinstated, but Mel won't do it.

Mel had no say in it at this point.

Before this constitutional crisis can play itself out, the military shows up at the presidential palace the morning of June 28 and orders Mel – who is in nightclothes – to board a plane for Costa Rica.

False. The SC gives the military, who is constitutionally charged with keeping the law in Honduras, a direct order to arrest Zelayas who is no longer the President or even a citizen. ARTICLE 42 .- The quality of citizen is lost:

Chavez lends him a plane for the occasion, but when it departs for Tegucigalpa, U.N. officials decide to follow in another aircraft.

Two or three more aircraft actually all of which departed from Washington D.C..

As thousands of pro-Mel demonstrators amass at the airport, ...

There were about 300 at most. I and other FReepers watched the entire episode at the airport on streaming video from a Honduran television station. (in spite of the widely reported "media blackout." /s)

At least one Honduran soldier fires live ammunition into the crowd, fatally wounding a 19-year-old Zelaya supporter named Isis Obed Murillo Mencia.

That is definitely in question. It has been reported that this man's wound was not from a military caliber bullet and the coroner has said it came from an angle that could not have come from where the troops were.

[Honduras] Killing Bullet Is Not Of Military Caliber

20 Armed Nicaraguans Detained at Protest Conclusion, Claims Military Officer (All armed with .357 caliber pistols.)

The Arias Answer is announced by Secretary of State Clinton, and confirmed by Mel after his meeting with Clinton.

Not only announced but arranged by SecState Hillary Clinton.

"The administration is getting its bearings now as Secretary Clinton is getting involved personally," adds Roger Noriega, former OAS ambassador during the Bush administration. "The decision to endorse a mediator that is more independent – rather than the OAS, which is seen as being controlled by Venezuela – took courage and shows leadership.

Oh yeah, real courage there, Hillary. Since your State Dept has been working for months to keep traitor Zelaya in office.

WSJ Update: Obama Worked To Prevent Ouster of (Marxist) Honduras President

Coups, interference, and the shifting standards of Obama; Update: Coup or ‘military impeachment’?

The author of this article, Carl M. Cannon, either doesn't know what's going on or is screeding propaganda for the Chavista Marxists.
