Congress and the president enacted a $787 billion fiscal stimulus package in February. Yet here it is July, and the desired effect on the economy has yet to be seen. Even though the program was aimed at boosting demand and creating jobs by pouring federal dollars into the economy, unemployment hit 9.5 percent in June, the highest rate in 26 years.

IMO the Chicago Tribune is one of a very few US newspapers that can be relied upon to, more often than not, report the news properly, the way newspapers were intended to do.

I do not consider the Chicago Tribune a typical member of the MSM / Mainstream Media, and have been a fairly consistent reader of the ‘Trib for about fifteen years.

I particularly enjoy John Kass’ columns: he has an encyclopedic knowledge of the Chicago City Hall scene and its interfacings and interactions with the Chicago Outfit.

We can usually rely upon receiving “some sanity from the Tribune”.

BS...The ChiTrib is just another garbage rag paper, they own the LATimes and don’t do any original reporting, just reprinting the AP-NYT-Reuters crap.

They’re as left as any other junk paper. I canceled them ten years ago.

While plugs said they misread the economy, I am sure I heard O say that the information was withheld from them.

Well, at the risk of repeating myself, just imagine where we would be today if they had simply suspended the collection of all taxes at every level until they had used up the $767 billion dollars! Problem with that though is it would help the producers and do little for the moochers. And that’s not the Democrat’s way of doing things.

Just imagine how much more productivity there would have been had private enterprise been left to spend that money completely unhindered by the social engineering of government at every level.

Evidently you don’t read the Chicago Tribune else you would have an informed opinion.

> They’re as left as any other junk paper.

What makes you say that?

Uh...because I have LIVED here in Chicago for over 30 years and have SEEN and READ what the ChitTrib has printed. I have spoken face to face with some of their so called journalists over the years. One such ‘journalist’, W. Neikirk used to cover the White House and Congross. When GWBush won the 2000 election, I complained to Neikirk about a negative article, he laughed and said that after all the Clinton Bashing we had done that his bashing of Bush was what comes around...

Stuff it.

And you stopped subscribing 10 years ago. You said so yourself.

> I have spoken face to face with some of their so called journalists over the years.

And I’ve corresponded with four of them for just under fifteen years, regularly.

> Stuff it.

You first.
