The political community's reaction to Alaska Republican Gov. Sarah Palin's announcement that she would resign on July 26 was swift, withering and very nearly unanimous. It's hard to dispute that Palin handled the announcement badly, but was her decision to resign really crazy, or just unexpected, with the press reacting to an unorthodox move by declaring it insane?

In this era, the lowest of the low are politicians. They barely beat out journalists. Thus, Sarah Palin is behind the eight-ball. If she handles herself with aplomb, answers questions forthrightly, directly. and is not afraid to say “I don’t know”, she yet may turn out to be the diamond in the rough that millions of Americans have hoped for. I hope so.

I don’t think she handled her announcement badly, just that the media reacted to it badly, as they do with everything she does. I’ve seen the word “rambling” pop up in just about every negative column, which I suspect is the Axelrod word of the day.
