Will LA print up its own IOUs to pay for Staples Center security? Read »
The scalping has already begun for the big Jacko Basho at the Staples Center tomorrow. It should be quite a riot, as more than 1 million people applied to get just a bit over 10,000 tickets. It was that hot.
But while Jackson's crew is paying for the event, LA is stuck with the bill for all the police, security and everything else that the event will cause.
AP: ... Los Angeles City Councilwoman Jan Perry said she'd "love it" if the Jacksons helped defray some of the city's expected costs associated with Tuesday's memorial, but that officials hadn't heard from the family.
Perry said the city didn't immediately have an estimate of those costs. More than 1.6 million fans registered online for a chance to attend the Staples Center ceremony, and only 8,750 names were chosen. Los Angeles officials are concerned about other fans clogging city streets.
"We're encouraging people to stay away," Perry said on CBS' "The Early Show" on Monday.
Why isn't this being distributed via pay-per-view of a subsciption web stream? Or maybe that thing they do in movie theaters these days with live events. With a million fans, surely some of them would be glad to pony up to watch remotely.

He died $500,000,000 in debt. He should be in the poor person’s cemetary.
Taxpayers are being raped. Again.
They should just tell Barry Soetoro they need a bailout.
and yet they were complaining they couldn’t afford the Laker’s NBA championship celebration. Go figure.
“Los Angeles City Councilwoman Jan Perry said she’d “love it” if the Jacksons helped defray some of the city’s expected costs associated with Tuesday’s memorial, but that officials hadn’t heard from the family.”
Bwaahahahahahahahahahaaaa ... wishful thinking there. The Jacksons are in this to make the last possible dime off Michael’s death, not engage in any civic or charity work.
They should fine the estate for disposing of rubbish without a permit.
Dear Los Angeles: beat it, just beat it.
Ah isn’t the Social State of California wonderfull?? I wonder if Obama will attend....Too bad there are so many Kool Aid drinkers in Cali they will never wake up and revolt
Keep 'um coming!!
Why is a municipality responsible for even one penny of the cost of a tribute to a private individual?
Whoever is staging this circus is responsible for security and should be brought up on criminal charges if they do not provide it.
Snicker go to the site and read the comments
If they had any dignity at all they would call this off and have a quiet ceremony at home.
Note I said IF they had any dignity...
“Maybe the city should just allow the area around the Staples Center to return to Hobbes’s “State of Nature” and just come back the next day to put out the fires and hose the blood off the streets. “
That’s what I would do if I were them.
Go to the site and read the comments lol
Have each illegal alien kick in $1, they would have $5 million dollars to defray the costs, in LA alone.
They’re not responsible for the funeral, but rather the policing they think it will take.
Hundreds of thousands of people are going to gather.
They need “policing.”
It’s disgusting if they take one PENNY from us to pay for this circus. And they will take way more than that with all the police and clean up crew this mess will require. IT’S OUTRAGEOUS. They already hosed us on the Laker’s parade and riot. The question now is: how will Villaragosa get in front of the cameras for this?
This is the type of situation which proves that cities like Los Angeles should not have the right to govern themselves. CA is broke, LA is broke, Jacko is broke, wtf was LA thinking when it agreed to host this? The city should either agree to host the event and pay for the costs of the government services rendered or simply say “NO” this cannot be done.
