What the hell did he think would come of this affair? Nothing good ever comes from them. I'm tired of people trying to make him out as some kind of hero. He was no hero, IMO.

Agree. My guess is that he was preparing to toss her aside in favor of his next mistress, and she lost it and killed him, then herself. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
No need to look too far afield for a motive, here. I suspect Islam was waaaaay down on the list.
