Now they want Reagan's name off the airport.
Washington Examiner ^ | July 2, 2009 | BARBARA HOLLINGWORTH

Posted on 07/02/2009 2:52:27 PM PDT by Kaslin

At Wednesday’s Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Board meeting, chairman H.R. Crawford – a former District Council member and Marion Barry confidante – told fellow Board members that he has heard talk on Capitol Hill about yanking former President Ronald Reagan’s name off the local airport and returning it to its previous generic moniker: National Airport.

“It was just a discussion. We’re not aware of anything specific,” MWAA spokeswoman Tara Hamilton later told The Examiner.

It’s clear that the current crop of congressional leaders want no part of Reagan’s grand conservative vision for America, but erasing all trace of his memory from an airport that’s already been named in his honor is about as petty as you can get.

Why would anybody on Capitol Hill even consider such a patently partisan move, which is guaranteed to make Democrats look small and ridiculous? Do they so fear the inevitable comparisons between the Great Communicator and his teleprompted successor in the White House?

San Francisco had a vote on renaming a sewage treatment plant after George Bush. (It lost).

I suggest we rename DC to “Chocolate City 2” as New Orleans already has the name.

Don’t forget, they refused to refer to it with the name Reagan for years. I’m not even sure the staff refers to it that way today.

What goes around comes around lefties...

Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Board Chairman H.R. Crawford must be an Republican plant. That is the onlyl possible explaination for a move this stupid.

Because they have the votes.

President Bush took care of the unpleasant but absolutely necessary business for a nation that never appreciated him even though they could not have gotten along without him.

Naming a sewage treatment plant after him would be a strange kind of honor.

How about Racoon city, a research town that was inhabited by mutants, after the grand design went terribly wrong? Can’t think of anything more fitting.

The Left are a bunch of vindictive, catty, self impressed groupies who would probably want to place Obama’s name on everything they can to spite the success that is and was America.

No surprise at all; the same practice was rife in the old Soviet Union. The shift of St. Petersburg to the more revolutionary name of Leningrad comes to mind.

I would think Liarsville would be much more appropriate and has the advantage of not being used yet.

Truth be known, Reagan himself wouldn't have wanted his name on it. He had stated that he was averse to public figures being 'honored' in such ways.
I agree. Let's just name bldgs, roads, and airports without a politician's or major donor's name preceding it.

The locals in the DC area still insist on calling it National -- at least the non-conservative ones.

My guess is this is their idea of payback. But as the original article points out, it's just petty vindictiveness. Everyone but the partisan left will see it for what it is.

Darn you! You beat me to it! What with him being such a “hero” and “genius”, something ought to be named after him. Maybe a pedophile wing of a prison, or a pharmacy.

parsy, who is not ususally this mean, but the stupid coverage on TV is driving me crazy!

I'm pretty certain this will not happen. The Democrats will destroy our economy, nationalize banks and the auto industry, bow and scrape to foreign tyrants and tax working Americans for every penny they can extract without inciting a revolution, but even they are not stupid enough to mess with Reagan's memory.
