On Friday people flooded Representatives with phone calls, faxes and emails opposing the so called Cap and Trade bill (aka Cap and tax). I can personally attest to two toll free capital switchboard phones lines(800-828-0498, 877-762-8762) being busy from at least 7:45am-8:30pm. Rush Limbaugh commented during his radio show phone lines, email servers and fax machines were overwhelmed. Unfortunately the vote was 219-212 in favor of this socialist legislation with 8 Republicans supporting socialism.
This could be viewed in one of two ways. One is the glass half full point of view as people are becoming more involved with the political process. The glass half empty point of view believes politicians are ignoring the people despite increasing pressure and therefore contacting your politicians via phone, email or fax is a waste of time. Such a viewpoint fails to take into consideration a fundamental point. The intense pressure on Congress did not begin until approximately only 24 hours before the scheduled vote. That leads to the question why didn’t people begin contacting politicians to the same extent days before as they did on Friday? Twenty four hours simply isn’t enough time to mount sufficient pressure. We need to start much sooner mounting sustained pressure against the Senate to pass Cap and tax.
It is for this reason I offer a suggestion in the form of a challenge. I challenge all Freepers starting fist thing Monday morning to contact at least one politician at least once per day either at their Washington D.C. or local office regarding Cap and Tax, socialist health care, amnesty for illegal aliens or any other socialist bills soon to be considered in either chamber. There are approximately 200,000 daily visitors to Freep Republic. Imagine the if all them made at least one contact per day. We could easily produce a sustainable and overwhelming presence if all freepers were to contact their Senators via phone, email, fax or letters at least once per day. This strategy could include contacting Representatives who voted for Cap and tax by letting them know their political careers are over and we will do everything in our power to see it comes to fruition.
It is time to steal a page out of the socialist playbook with increasing and unrelenting pressure on Congress critters. They have been applying this strategy for years. They view any setback as temporary and so should Conservatives. The underlying theme is not to give up. Let’s turn their own plan against them. One means of contact to at least one politician per day will only take a few minutes out of everyone’s day with a far greater potential positive return. People with more free time and/or ambition may also be inclined to set up meetings with one or more Senators or their Representative. There have been several comments claiming it’s no use since anyone particular approach doesn’t work. That may or may not be true but applying all methods simultaneously will eventually wear them down. The combined knowledge of Freepers is impressive. We should put it to good use. Be creative. I welcome your input on this thread. I can only suggest comments offer positive input instead of stating it can’t be done or won’t work. We are the majority and need to behave as the majority. Be assertive. Spread the word! Now let’s go get ‘em!
Why would they call this a “jobs bill” and Pelosi say it was all about 4 words: jobs,jobs,jobs,jobs....IF
It’s supposed to save the planet from man-made ecological disaster. Wouldn’t that be the prime reason?
I hammered my congressman for weeks about this bill and we had several back-and-forths via email about it. He has a thank you email in his inbox now since he did vote “nay”.
I’ve already emailed both senators about it and heard back from one. Now that this crap-and-trade bill goes to the Senate, they’ll hear more - - and they’ll hear often.
Why so many wait til the last minute is beyond me.
I brought this up at the Tea party I attended yesterday. Pay attention to what bills are coming up, learn what you can about those bills, and let your elected officials know how you feel about them. The more informed you are, the more likely they’ll pay attention to what you say - - or at least respond to you about it.
Heck, I hear from Sen. Alexander often now, where I didn’t get replies before. LOL! I don’t always agree with what he says and reply letting him know what I disagree with.
Informed communication gets better results. And early, continuous communication is the key. Waiting til the last minute doesn’t work.
After learning that the Obamination met with some senators last week about the Amnesty bill he insists needs to be passed this year, I emailed both my senators about it.

I had suggested a couple of weeks ago that we need a forum or topic on the main page just for upcoming legislation, only I worded it differently - something like - fascist takeover agenda.
Good idea. Do it. The elected representatives can ignore our contacts up to a point. When there are too many, they can no longer ignore us.
That wouldn't be a bad idea, imho. There's so much going on, and they're rushing through everything like Mad Hatters - - - it's not always easy to keep up.
Having it more consolidated, rather than scattered throughout all the other posted threads, would help a lot.
