The backstory on this is that this kid, rapper Hurricane Chris, is the godson of Barbara Norton (D-Shreveport) and this occurred on the last day before the session ended. She introduced him as a role model.

Our celebrity worship culture has led us to this (which is another point Pundette makes). We elected a cool, celebrity president who is in turn leading us into ruin. I'm not being hyperbolic here, I don't think. It's clear to me that he's ramming health care reform, climate reform, financial reform, etc. etc., through as fast as he can because he figures by 2010 the Kool Aid might have worn off and it will be more difficult to do after the mid-term elections. I'm sure immigration reform is next on the agenda.

To be fair to Hurricane Chris, I don't know anything about him or his style. Is what he does typical of the misogynistic, guttural and low class nature of rap in general or is he better than that?

If he is above the pale I see nothing wrong with Louisiana honoring him, but if he isn't, then why didn't anyone step up and say something?

As I said, I did not know anything about this guy until now. I sincerely would have had no problem with the state honoring him if he had indeed acted honorably and earned such praise.
