It has now been over two months since North Carolina Wildlife Enforcement Officer Mark Minton shot and killed 76 year old Cyde Coffey while Coffey was hunting turkeys on his own land.
In spite of dozens of news reports the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has yet to release any information about the case and the county District Attorney has yet to issue any statement about imminent prosecution.
Family members allege Officer Minton was not in proper uniform and the use of deadly force over an alleged wildlife violation was excessive.

On his own land.
Yup, and the officer wore camouflage instead of his issue uniform.
Best regards,

So the officer sniped him, on his own land.

In camo? Sounds like Minton was maybe going out to do some turkey poaching on private property.

In before the usuals pop in to say if you think this is wrong you automatically must have a knee jerk hatred of cops. Unlike their supposedly well informed and virtuous selves.

Yeah, knee jerk hatred of cops in camo, instead of their issued uniforms, killing people on their own land....

“His own land?” Are you serious? It’s all the King’s Land.
Just don’t pay your property tax, and see who really owns it.

“A law enforcement official speaking on condition of anonymity said, ‘During his patrol Minton discovered Coffey allegedly hunting turkey from a tree stand and baiting the birds underneath it, both illegal during Spring Turkey Season. Minton ordered Coffey to exit the tree to which the hunter allegedly responded that if he came down he would shoot Minton.’
Coffey reportedly exited the tree stand and began to advance on the officer, continuing to threaten him with his weapon as Minton repeatedly ordered him to stop. At some point Minton found himself unable to retreat any further and fired on Coffey.”

That does not make a lot of sense. The guy makes it to 76 and then decides to do a suicide by cop one day while hunting?

Opening day...
There is scant information about the case. I say waterboard the game guy until he tells what happened.
To: microgood
number one, this was not a crime that needed to be stopped at that time, at that minute...the guy has probably been hunting turkeys that way for eons....
why would a cop make an issue of this little incident?...why?
don't they teach discretion and common sense to cops?
so tonite, after a long day of driving , my husband and I were pulled over for speeding 38 in a 25.....the officier said my husband looked tired, and to stop for some caffiene at the Shop and Go, and then gave a warning....now THAT is being what a cop should be....helpful..not adversarial...

If I am on my own property and some guy in camo with a gun tells me to get down. I will not assume he is game warden and may choose to shoot in defense.
The game warden was trespassing and threatening with a gun.

So, 1.You document with your video camera. 2. You call for assistance 3. You do not just barge in and start throwing your badge around. How about the allegations the officer was not in uniform to boot?

Other than the family allegation about the uniform, how do you know the agent was in camo?
