I'm a Refugee from the Obama-Nation

I left the United States in May to celebrate the wedding of my firstborn son, and decided to remain in Israel. So from time to time I'll post an anecdote about my experiences in the holy land. Here's the first:

Settlers of Juda and Shomron and soldiers on leave carry guns everywhere. They're allowed to bring their pieces into highly secure areas, and I'm talking M16s with grenade launchers mounted under the barrels. One such secure place, with metal detectors, X-ray scanners and ID checks at the doors, is the Tachana Merkazit in Jerusalem, or Central Bus Terminal. I brought my luggage through there once, moving everything to the new place in Kiryat Arba, and what do their X-ray machines pick up in one of my valises, but a large knife that I keep mostly as a memento. It still has a wicked edge, but I'm not wearing it and your average large kitchen knife is more dangerous. I got it from my sensei for $35 when his dojo lost its lease. He's now my brother-in-law, and so it's sort of a family thing. But they pull me aside, confiscate the knife and my passport, and keep me and my daughter waiting 90 minutes 'til a cop shows up. The cop is trying to make a big deal about it, but I'm not intimidated. He takes me out to his car, and demands that I turn the knife over to him to, uh...destroy it. Since both he and his partner tell me that if I don't consent to the knife's destruction I'll have to go down to the station and explain why I have this illegal contraband, I reluctantly sign an informal memo consenting to the "destruction". I demand a copy, which they make for me, and go on my way from the station to our new home. No doubt, they sold it to another cop after certifying that it was destroyed. I mean, it's a real nice knife. All the security guards at the station were trying it on and showing it off to each other. Yet another sad story of the abuse of power.

But what astounds me is that in Israel, where the Jews carry guns and the Arabs generally have some sort of a dagger as a family heirloom, a perfectly ordinary ninja knife, about 10 inches from end to end with a six inch darkened blade, should cause such a stir.

What? We’ll be allowed to carry guns into bus terminals, but not knives?

There is a knife control law pending here. See “the banglist”.

Just the other day a story from England touted a new invention, a knife so dull it could not be effective in a criminal manner. They disarmed the public, the thieves still have guns, or use knives in their criminal deeds. The new knife is touted as a better altermative to a real knife. What next in England, sharp stick control?

Sorry those in control in Israel got your keepsake knife. So ridiculous when everyone is armed anyway. Here in leftist Wisconsin, we good citizens cannot legally conceal carry a gun, yet every thug in the state carries a concealed gun without restriction.

America is well on it’s way to a socialist thug government. When I see the lack of interest in the Iranian Election Uprising that Obama shows, it only shows he is fine with fake elections. ACORN won him his presidency, along with the uneducated public school drones, and those who voted for him soley based on his outward appearance(that’s racist). ACORN will do our census. How nice. ACORN will ‘help’ with lots of things, even the next elections no doubt. An Iranian style fake election is not out of the realm of possibility with the little dictator in charge.

My husband was deployed to Israel the year after he was in Kuwait for the start of the war. It seems odd, but I found myself more concerned for his welfare when he was dressed as a US soldier in Israel than when he was on the air base in Kuwait. The hate the palestinians have for us was worse than the danger of being a few miles from the Iraq border and taking on scuds.

Stay safe Eleutheria5, you are braver than me. I won’t go to Israel at least until we have a pro-Israel president. Heck, how about a pro-America president, that would be nice.

Israel has a bad enough public relations problem—mostly undeserved—without hassling American visitors. They need all the friends they can muster.

I'd be interested in future posts about local Israeli viewpoints about the U.S., Obama, Iran, PA, etc.

Reminds me of the line from “Top Secret”:

Hillary Flammond: My uncle was born in America.
Nick Rivers: Oh, really?
Hillary Flammond: But he was one of the lucky ones. He managed to escape in a balloon during the Jimmy Carter presidency.

I’m not going to Israel until Christ comes back.

And in WI, you can carry openly. You might get arrested for disorderly, but all that is is a lawsuit you will win, but you have to pursue it.

At least our AG Van Hollen made a statement on open carry this year. Used to be if you did, they got you for disorderly conduct. He really surprised us when he addressed the open carry situation here. Many happier gun owners in WI now. It still bothers me to no end that our government denies good people concealed carry while criminals do that at will.

I haven’t had much contact with Arabs, hostile or otherwise, since coming here, though I’ve walked through the Arab parts of the Old City often enough, and I live in the “occupied” area around Chevron. The only really creepy thing is Fridays in Chevron proper, when the Mu’azin loud-speaker is on all day. While the echo off the hills and my badly atrophied Arabic make translating what is said impossible, one thing I can tell you is that the speaker has a serious mad-on about something.

The Arab villages I pass going to and from places seem well-built, sanitary and prosperous. There are businesses and farms that seem to be thriving. But at Tzomet Hagush (Gush Etzion Junction), there is a pile of stones commemorating three Israeli kids who were mowed down by an AK-47 while hitch hiking. Naturally, it was all the fault of the gun, and Menachem Begin’s expansionist policies. The Arabs pulling the trigger were mere hapless victims.
