Obama Trying To Become President More Than Eight Years
Thomas Library Of Congress ^

Posted on 06/15/2009 4:59:22 PM PDT by Man50D

House Joint Resolution 5(H.J.Res.5) will repeal the twenty second amendment allowing a President an unlimited number of terms. It was introduced by Rep. Jose Serrano(NY-16) on January 6, 2009 and referred to to the Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties on February 9, 2009. It wouldn't surprise me if this lays dormant for a period of time until we near 2012 and then it is suddenly brought to a vote like so many other bills favoring socialists that have been rushed through Congress without any debate. I suggest contacting Congress critters now and let them know this is another attempt to strengthen the executive branch at the expense of check and balances and the people. Forewarned is forearmed. The text of the bill is below.

"Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to repeal the twenty-second article of amendment, thereby removing the limitation on the number of terms an individual may serve as President."

3/4 of the states would need to approve it, if you could get 13 states to at the very least table the measure it would fail.

It shouldn't be there to start.

I think it comes up periodically, even before Obama was around... it’s actually nothing new.

And sure, it’s stupid, but some Congressman has to say that they did *something* doncha know... :-)

The longer he stays in office, the longer the left can pretend his BS policies are working.

He and the democrats sure don’t behave as if they plan to face another election.

People can say it will never happen but meanwhile political leaners are being moved from district to district. ACORN will be doing census work to help with redistricting and before we know it they’ll be unstoppable.

I agree the amendment could not be ratified, however considering the source, we should be vigilant that the Obanamaniacs dont try to slip something by. Like cancelling the election because of a “national emergency”.

I got a bill for you:

3 term Senators.

and 12 Year (NO EXCEPTION) of Supreme Caught Judge

Oh let’s bring the Constitution as the ONLY benchmark on which prospective Supreme Court Judges are even considered. A judge that has no repect for the Constitution should be stripped of their citizenship.

Did you hear Sarah Palin’s warning of how the federal government next is going to bail out debt-ridden states using the same formula as it did with the car companies and the banks.

Obama tells the state using gangster tactics: “You will not get a red cent unless your legislature allows a vote on the Amendment.” All he has to do is convince 38 states to bring it up for a vote. Do you really believe that the Chicago thugs won’t be able to do this?

The interstate voting compact is a sidestep that uses the electoral college.

5 have enacted it into law

5 states have passed it in both houses

8 have passed 1 house (That’s two more since about april)

I can’t quite see that one happening. And let’s say that 38 states do consider it for passage. How on earth are you going to get the citizens to pass it?

In answer to your question as to whether they will be able to do this. My answer is “No, they won’t be able to do that...”

The 22nd Amendment was finalized in 1951 when 3/4ths of the states ratified it. Since 1956 there have been numerous bills filed to reverse the 22nd. They have gone nowhere each time and usually are sent to a subcommitte of the Judicary Committee. Some have been authored or sponsored by Republicans such as Henry Hyde and James Sensenbrenner Jr. so it hasn’t always been democrats submitting these bills.
