Senate moves forward with government tobacco takeover

On June 2, I called attention to the Democrats’ plans to complete a government tobacco takeover.

The next step took place today while America slept. Another day, another industry grab:

Congress struck the government’s strongest anti-smoking blow in decades Thursday with a Senate vote to give regulators new power to limit nicotine in cigarettes, drastically curtail ads and ban candied tobacco products aimed at young people.

Cigarette foes say the changes could cut into the 400,000 deaths every year caused by smoking and reduce the $100 billion in annual health care costs linked to tobacco.

The legislation, one of the most dramatic anti-smoking initiatives since the U.S. surgeon general’s warning 45 years ago that tobacco causes lung cancer, would give the Food and Drug Administration authority to regulate the content, marketing and advertising of cigarettes and other tobacco products.

It’s propylene glycol, and it’s what’s used in cigar humidors. Safe, but some few folks have reactions to it. I personally like using vegetable glycerine. You get a LOT more vapor with it, and it’s sweet tasting.

I'd like to remind my two Senators, Nelson and Martinez, one D the other R_d, that the state legislature is using a new tobacco tax to pay for education funding in the state they represent.

I fixed my problem with gov't and tobacco...ate all the food in my freezer before the tax went into effect...Got enough bags if tobacco this will last for at least a year (I roll my own) and when that's gone, I will at the age of 72 quit because I will not give those SOB's any more tax money...that is a great incentive not to smoke and the only one that would work for me....

To those that say its a good thing to quit, I have been smoking since I was 13. I don't take kindly to hearing from anal anti-smoking Nazi's..

I still have 10 pounds of pre-SCHIP tobacco that I intend to make into e-cigarette juices. That 10 pounds should last me about ten years, if I do it right.

sounds interesting, I don’t know about e cigaretts, I have about 20 pounds or so in the freezer...Sent my kids into gales of laughter when they opened my freezer....What is an e cigarette and do they taste the same as real ones?

There are many different kinds of ecigs out there. But they mainly consist of a battery, an atomizer and a cartridge. The battery sends electrical current to the atomizer that has an internal coil that is soaked in e-fluid, causing it to atomize due to the vibrations in the coil. The atomized fluid is then inhaled into the lungs and a vapor comes out upon exhalation.

If I were to take a blind test, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two as far as smoking experience.
New Zealand conducted a test of these devices and found them safe for users, and those exposed to the exhaled vapors in a, "Second-hand," environment.

I didn't even expect to quit smoking altogether, either. My tobacco plants didn't want to grow, and I was going to go to ecigs as a backup.

Yep. I'm on my 20th day smoke free. It's weird. Like a friend I've known for 30 years is no longer with me every day.

Some people quit the ecigs because they bought one that doesn't have the quality of the better ones. I did a lot of research beforehand on this site:

Right now, I'm puffing away with amaretto flavored eliquid. There's so many more. Can't wait to try cheesecake flavorings. YUM!

If you get it, make sure and get extra batteries and atomizers. Also, they sell a USB passthrough. Keep your batteries charging while you use your ecig powered by your computer. It’s nice!

Thanks. I smoke about a pack a day, Marlboro Lights. What mg strength would you recommend?

Also, how long do each one of those cartridges last? What I’ve seen so far in my brief search is that each of those cartridges is like $2.00 a piece.

Here’s what I suggest.
You smoke about the same as I did -but I was rolling my own cigs and it was pretty strong when compared to Marlboro.
Get the 36mg tobacco from totally wicked and the 901 with extra batteries and atomizers. The total price for starting up will be about $100.
Then, go to a Hobby Lobby and get some small, clear containers for mixing.
Start with the cartridges that come with the 901, then refill them with eliquid straight from the bottle. When you’re ready to cut the nicotine, mix 5 drops of vegetable glycerin to three drops of eliquid, and give it a try to see how it tastes. Then go from there to what you prefer.
Vegetable glycerin can be found at a Vitamin Cottage or some fitness stores. Make sure it’s pure VG, too.
