Senate moves forward with government tobacco takeover

On June 2, I called attention to the Democrats’ plans to complete a government tobacco takeover.

The next step took place today while America slept. Another day, another industry grab:

Congress struck the government’s strongest anti-smoking blow in decades Thursday with a Senate vote to give regulators new power to limit nicotine in cigarettes, drastically curtail ads and ban candied tobacco products aimed at young people.

Cigarette foes say the changes could cut into the 400,000 deaths every year caused by smoking and reduce the $100 billion in annual health care costs linked to tobacco.

The legislation, one of the most dramatic anti-smoking initiatives since the U.S. surgeon general’s warning 45 years ago that tobacco causes lung cancer, would give the Food and Drug Administration authority to regulate the content, marketing and advertising of cigarettes and other tobacco products.

Here’s the roll call vote. Only 17 Nays:

0 must’ve gotten a hold of Hitler’s playbook somehow, and is following it to the letter.

More Nazi tactics for you.

Let the old folks die? A MUST READ
This could be YOU!

Let the old folks die, don’t waste money on treatment, let’s run a little lethal injection thru the veins of D.C. Most of you know by now that the Senate version (at least) of the “stimulus” bill includes provisions for extensive rationing of health care for senior citizens. The author of this part of the bill, former senator and tax evader, Tom Daschle was credited today by Bloomberg with the following statement. Bloomberg: “Daschle says health-care reform “will not be pain free.” Seniors should be more accepting of the conditions that come with age instead of treating them.” If this does not sufficiently raise your ire, just remember that Senators and Congressmen have their own healthcare plan that is first dollar or very low co-pay which they are guaranteed the remainder of their lives and are not subject to this new law if it passes.

Please use the power of the Internet to get this message out. Talk it up at the grassroots level. We have an election coming up in one year and nine months. We have the ability to address and reverse the dangerous direction the Obama administration and it allies have begun and in the interim, we can make their lives miserable. Let’s do it!

IMO, by reducing the level of nicotine folks'll have to smoke more to get the same result, thereby increasing tax revenue.

Like most everything else the gov. does, this is not about 'safety,' or 'lives saved' (if that were the case wouldn't abortion be discouraged through regulation?), it's all about revenue.

Oh, O and some senator were both given ecigarettes, and they quit smoking because of it. However, I can’t quit smoking because they want to BAN ecigarettes?

Today is my 19th day without a cigarette for a 30-year smoker.

Well, it's damn fortunate my two senators from Georgia voted against or I'd have had their ass on a pole (figuratively) in any and all elections involving them.

The federal Gestapo will regulate tobacco, conventiently never mentioning the 'ultimate' regulation - complete prohibition. These fools are so stupid as to believe that regulating the nicotine will do something. What they will find is that, yes, sales of cigarettes will decline. Less new users, more quitters....THEN, the realization comes that they've lost one big damn source of tax money!

Then, comes the scramble to make the 'safe' cigarette....nicotine will be found not to be the 'culprit' but tars or other additive and they will adjust the mixture and pump the sales back up to healthy (taxable) levels....what a bunch of goddam ghouls...I hope all you non smokers out there realize that after they've figured out they can't make any more money effing with us, they'll turn to your jogging shoes, sidewalk taxes, excess sweat and fart taxes while you run and all of the other powerade-like stuff you consume...it is not health that is on their mind. Something else more bankable.

LOL on your screen name....love that book and the movie.

So E-Cigs worked for you? I only heard about them last week. The ethylene glycol kinda scares me off.

I wonder if patches are regulated and taxed - if not, that industry stands to win big, imo.
