My best friend of 16 years died Thursday.
She was an Obedience Champion, #1 in her Breed in 2003 AKC, she had a Utility degree and OTCH points before arthritis took her out of competition. She knew about fifty words/expressions, she could swim like a mini tugbout, catch a frisby on the fly, retrieve anything with all her heart, climb a ladder, bark on command, drop food on command, find hidden objects on command, do the Schutzhund arm hold, and many other feats.
She heeled perfectly off leash on Manhattan streets and parks recognizing the need to stop at every curb and ignoring dogs, squirrels and other distractions.
She was affectionately called a 'play machine'. She loved kids, people, other dogs (especially un-neutered males), and had a bark I named the call of the wild.
She will be dearly missed and always remembered.
The loss of a beloved pet is not to be minimized. The grief is real.
Dobes are so beautiful when their ears hven’t been cropped.
I’m very heartbroken to read this. Time heals, it seems though it will be long for you. So very sorry for you.
He will stay that way for hours. We cannot leave him if it is unusually cold or unusually hot as we know he will not leave the gate.
My little guy is 11 now.
I don’t like thinking about it.
Sorry for your loss.
Sorry for your loss....
I know what you are going through. I lost my Thundercat last Wed. He had to quit watching animal planet due to stalking deer in the field. He was a cool kitty. My eyes are still swollen.
They say “Only a fool gives his heart to a dog.”
So from one fool to another, my condolences.
So sorry.
I lost my girl, a border collie, when she was only 4 and it was awful.
You’ve had your best friend 16 yrs. Terrible.
But I’m sure she had a wonderful life. That’s all we can supply.
I am so sorry for your loss. As a board member of our local Humane Society I know that many people have had to abandon their pets during these hard economic times. A good pet owner like yourself could make one of these dogs feel loved again. Please consider it.
Oh my. I’m so sorry your dear friend is gone. There’s nothing like the friendship and love given us by our dogs, is there?
Hang tight..
Lost one of my fuzzy friends last Tuesday...it's certainly been a sad week.
My heart aches for you. People who don’t have pets never can fully grasp the deep love we have for our little friends. When I lost my little dog of 14 years, I cried more for her passing than I did for my Dad, and I cried a lot for my Dad. I felt like I lost a child because she was so much a part of the family.
Know how you feel...
She is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are her life, her love, her leader.
She will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of her heart. You owe it to her to be worthy of such devotion.”

So sorry for your loss. Know exactly how you feel...
“She is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are her life, her love, her leader.”

Thank you everyone for your kind wishes.
It is a comfort to know that other people understand the loss.
