CNBC and MSNBC use of “shock jocks” like Olberman for affect have had diminishing returns.

Once you’ve heard someone make some stupid incindiary remark without substance it becomes boring and then irritating.

People still have a need for news and anaylsis and will seek it out.

Unless someone is a total leftist loon, viewers are insulted by the shock jocks.

People still have a need for news and analysis and will seek it out.

What is REALLY DISCOURAGING is that there are polls and studies saying that many under-30s get their news from Colbert and his "Comedy Channel News". I would like to believe that this is malarky that they are feeding pollsters but Colbert's influence and ratings indicate that it is true. Actually given a binary choice I MYSELF would watch Colbert over d'Olberman any day.
