I think I got banned. My comment was “Ban this, f****r”. I assume I got banned I’ve never been back since.

I've been a proud FReeper since 2005, but haven't posted before because I've been intimidated by the whole process. Okay, I admit it - I'm lame. But I just got banned from LGF. I know there are other FReepers out there who have been banned. Care to commiserate?

Why, sure, Dinah Lord- I saw your name earlier in my rounds of the InterToobs, where this guy

Chuckles the Dancing Klown, had whacked you with his precious ban stick for some damn-fool or imaginary offense.

I've been online since 1981, and can you guess the one and only site that ever banned me?

You have to love the circular logic of it all-- after hurricane Katrina, some members of LGF wanted to discuss it- imagine that! And the Great Chameleon, err, LizardMaster, told them to “take it elsewhere”-- so they did, to Gulf Coast Pundit.

A funny thing happened- he started banning people arbitrarily, whimsically, and in absentia, and for simply being married to someone else banned...

And, oddly enough, those were the best writers, researchers, and commenters...

Noticing this, I hied mesef' over to GCP, to see what I thought of as “the best of the best”-- for my two cents-- sand promptly got mesef banned, no word of warning, no “knock it off!” no refund of the money I'd foolishly sent the Great Chameleon, just Blam!

In the steal of the night, too, like so many others.

It's all so childish, and Oh! So! Petty as well.

Note also that assorted ass-kissers from that Fooseballs place are prowling the internet to harry and stalk former members...

I'd love to gather my usual links ( some call me The Caesar of Links, some call me other things... ) but don't have the time right now, so here's just a sample:

What Has Happened To Little Green Footballs?   ( 1 2)

A new Chuckles is a Barack Obama knob goblin liberal pansy thread!

Needs a little art to make it feel like home…

Ace of Spades HQ Asks The Question...

What was once a must read blog for news and analysis on my rss feed has recently become a once or twice a day stop and that's only for the car crash quality of it all.

Today's head shaking moment comes from a post entitled "Limbaugh Stuck On Fail". Charles seems genuinely confused that some people might actually say out loud they don't want Sotomayor confirmed to the Supreme Court.

It seems that for a democracy to function there needs to be at least two parties who articulate their differences. The idea that partisans of either party wants the other to fail is baked into the cake.

I know Barack Obama wanted John Roberts and Sam Alito to fail in their confirmation efforts. How do I know this? He voted against them. Of course, there's nothing wrong with that, it's all part of the give and take of public discourse. Just as there's nothing wrong with Limbaugh or my wish to see Sotomayor fail in her bid for confirmation.

Equally confounding is Charles' contention in the comments of that thread that

Barack Obama ran on a platform of sheer positive messages. Not once did he wish for the other side to fail. You're just wrong to claim that negativity is winning strategy. One of the big reasons why Obama won was because he did NOT go negative -- ever.

Really? This will of course come as news to anyone who followed the campaign last year. Even the Washington Post noticed.

How about, just to pick one of many examples, when Obama accused President Bush and John McCain of "fear mongering"?

Or the distortions of McCain's words.

The list could go on and on.

I really don't have a dog (or monkey) in all the creationist stuff but while it's certainly Charles' right to post on whatever the hell he wants, the constant harping and disdain for others is off putting.

Sadly I can only conclude there's no room for me anymore under LGF's big tent.

From the comments at Ace:

4 And look at all the pussies over there tiptoe on eggshells to avoid disagreeing with Charles and getting banned.

Oh my! Mustn’t upset Sensitive Ponytail Guy!

643 seriously, did it take you this long Ace?  That place is a cult of personality.  I think it is down to people that just want Charles to like them, there is no recognizable political philosophy; just whatever Charles says goes.  I was a member there for many years...

Getting kicked off of Little Green Footballs is a badge of honor. There are quite a lot of conservative blogs that even brag about it and sport this logo.

Care to commiserate?

Two months ago, after I made a post that disagreed with one of Charles's statements I was suddenly blocked from posting. I assumed that I had been banned, which felt like a punch in the stomach. Perhaps I have not actually been banned, but I have stopped my frequent visits to the site. I don't like what it has become.

Charles Johnson is a smart guy, and I appreciate his contributions to the blogosphere, from his Rathergate "throbbing memo" to his exposes of fauxtography to his excellent musical posts, and more.

However, LGF has changed in the past year. It now seems to be largely devoted to promotion of the "Republican War on Science" meme and Christian Republican bashing. While I am not particularly Christian, and I believe that some of these complaints have merit, too often Charles and his posters descend into what seems to me to be irrational anti-Christian bigotry. Also, Johnson's posts frequently have a snarky, nasty tone, that is copied by his posters. Last, he is very quick to ban posters, apparently just for disagreeing with him. This has reduced the range and quality of posts. LGF has become less a battleground of ideas and more an echo chamber of ugly voices.

As for Johnson's endless references to the "nirth certifikit," that is an example of the tone I mentioned (and yes, I know where he got the term.) I wish he had used his talents to answer the questions surrounding Obama's failure to release his long-form birth certificate. Perhaps has done this, but I have not seen it.

If for some reason you want to rejoin the site under another name, you should be aware that Johnson monitors the IP addresses of his posters, so he may just re-ban you as a "sock puppet" you unless you post from a different IP address. You can get around that by using Tor.

Or you can just do what so many readers of the site have done, and stop visiting:
