North Korea has rescinded its 1953 cease-fire negotiated with South Korea and the U.S. at the end of the Korean War. This decision is tantamount to a renewal of that War. However, the prospects for such a War today are much more dire than in the early 1950s. This time the North has nukes.
The South has nukes too- or at least, an umbrella agreement
If NK takes out Seoul....China may step in and warn the US and Japan to back off. China is the good guy and runs NK while Seoul is a smoldering ruin.
You, Welshman007, are Anthony Martin? How enterprising.
Kim has judged Obama and found him wanting.
He knows the UN is a paper tiger and he is pretty certain Pbama will do nothing, the time is ripe to reunite Korea.
Hey Zero!!! How’s that reaching out and understanding our enemies program working out?
Yep, they have nukes. They could probably field 6-12 low ktn. nukes on missiles. They could hit Seoul and obliterate it. Of course they have been able to do that for decades anyways. They have over 10,000 pieces of artillery in striking distance of Seoul. Seoul would be in ruins in about an hour by conventional means anyways.
But if NK nukes South Korea or Japan it's game over for them. There wouldn't be a piece of DPRK soil that wasn't radioactive by the end of the day.
Not to mention China is not going to let them go to war. If DPRK invades South Korea or uses a WMD Japan will go Nuclear themselves and then China is faced with it's most hated Neighbor having nukes and greatly shifting the balance of power in Asia.
In summary;
DPRK is not suicidal.
China is not stupid.
More then likely the North is running low on something they need, or Kim is rattling his saber to get his way with his successor with The Millitary.
This is how he gets attention and what he wants from the Party and the world at large. Nothing new here.
Kim has one foot in the grave. His successor is trying to warn off anyone who wants to take advantage of the passing of a “god”.
North Korea just doesn’t have the hardware anymore. They are still stuck in the 50’s.
I don’t believe Obama would nuke NK or anyone else.
And JAPAN would do this??? I doubt it. And niether would Obama. But you make a good point about the fuel. Or maybe they plan to capture fuel, like Battle of the Buldge plan.
Of course he would. He’d be the hero of Aisa, every one would be talking about how he really is a tough CnC, his re-election would be practically reassured, and no one would be talking about the economy, judges, taxes, or anything else for some time to come, which would give his blunders and domestic power grab great cover.
It would be manna from Heaven for him.
A growing number of voices in Japan no longer want to be a Pacifist Nation. That doesn't mean they are becoming militaristic, but they are acutely aware of who their neighbors are and understand that their current constitutional restrictions greatly limit's their ability to defend themselves and their interests.
As for the DPRK invading and stealing resources, a good portion of the South's resources are in their rear, not toward the DMZ for obvious reasons. That and the DPRK would be facing an equal number of South Korean Troops, with American Training and Modern Weaponry and ample supplies. The DPRK not only is deprived of fuel, they are also stuck with increasingly antiquated soviet era weaponry.
To be honest, every year that goes by greatly reduces their relevancy as a Conventional Military Power.
Sucks to be SK in that scenario.
OK that sounds good. But think about this and let me know what you or other Freepers think.
Because of a madman the United States of America is going to drop nuclear weapons on the civilian populace of North Korea. In other words, we're going to burn down a village in order to save it.
THAT is going to be the bleeding heart argument for what is coming down the pipe. The FACT that we are prosecuting Marines and soldiers for conducting WAR on the enemy has shown the Koreans, Venezuelans, Iranians, Chinese and others that we don't have the stomach for killing. That is what war is , killing.
We don't have the moral fiber in our so called "leaders" and civilian parasites (unions, liberals, welfare minorities i.e. New Orleans, Northeast intellectuals, and west coast hippie/enviro freaks) to turn a city into ash and cook a couple of hundred thousand people.
We are going to be looking at North Korea, Iran and maybe even Pakistan hold a gun (nuke) to the head of countries and say, "pay up or the dog gets it". They might even go high tech and do an EMP strike over south Korea and then you'd have North Korea actually more technologically advanced than South Korea. The old , "one eyed man leading a hundred blind men".
Then what... TOFUS the community organizer will once again use... "Hard Diplomacy" and really really really talk to the North Koreans. At the end of the day the man with the gun makes the rules. That goes from traffic laws to property rights. The reason we all behave is because there is a man with a gun that will kill you if you screw around. The libs just don't want to admit it or are so stupid that they don't even realize it.
Here is something most people are forgetting about liberals. Yes you do have your hard core Marxists and pacifists who will never support American Military action, but by and large, Liberal Democrats are only against Military action when it's a Republican doing it.
Notice the choir calling for immediate withdrawl from Iraq is totally absent from Congressional Debate now. The fact that that Obama is increasing forces in Afghanistan by a large amount and the Democrats are mum about it. The fact that the left was literally beating their chests when the Pirates got taken out (USA! USA! was actually being chanted on DU).
The fact is, if it Was a Republican doing all of this they would be going ballistic. But now there is one of their own in the White House, and blowing crap up is fashionable with the left again.
So, just what, exactly, is your point?
He's calling you a blog pimp, son.
