Canada, like the United States, needs more Andy Taylors in law enforcement and fewer Barney Fifes.

We need to trade in all of our “Law Enforcement Officers” for “Peace Officers”.

Methinks there is more to the story.

Wow... when did it become Against The Law not to hold the escalator rail?
And when did it become an offense deserving Use-of-Force on the scale of handcuffing? That’s pretty dam’n serious stuff.
My home-and-native-land is in dire peril if it has slipped to these depths in my absence.

Maybe is was when she took the Lucky Strike out of her mouth so she could tell the cop to kiss her A$$,(in her best Natacha accent), that the cop got angry.

From the original article...
Société de transport de Montréal regulations say it is forbidden for all persons to disobey a directive or a pictogram posted by the Société. "Forbidden"!? Ah yes, the jackboots have a home in the Montreal subway system.

I believe Mark Steyn is not impressed with the current political environment up north.

And they let her go?!!! What? Are they crazy?!!! Well, while she was detained at least there was a period of time that all escalator riding civilians were safe.

One of comments from the Globe-n-Mail got my attention.
Besides none of this really effects me, since I am always super polite to the police, in fact, if I were issued this kind of ticket (being that I don’t live in Quebec) I would have simply found the nearest garbage can.
Comes off as a little naive, don’t ya think???

I never hold those handrails - cooties, you know...
Actually, by not having hand gel at the end of each escalator they are violating my rights to be virus-free/sarc

> How conservative is Canadian conservatism?
That question would need answering on multiple levels. The “Progressive Conservative” conservatism of Brian Mulroney’s era was akin to the RINOs that plague the GOP: not very conservative. They are gone.
In the intervening time the Conservative movement in Canada has been struggling to redefine itself, and I’m not too displeased with what seems to be forming. I voted “Reform” in my very last Canadian election — the one that saw the PC’s under Kim Campbell relegated to oblivion.
I think it will take a while before the conservative side of thing beds down properly. But it will. Canada has always been strongest when there is a well-defined difference between the Whigs and the Tories.
Mulroney’s Progressive Conservatives did dreadful damage to Canada. It will take a very long time to recover, I believe.
