Could Nancy Pelosi eventually lose her job as Speaker of the House over her incendiary allegation that the CIA lied to her and misled Congress? It's possible and here's why:
1. Her shifting explanations about what she knew about water-boarding and when she knew it indicate at the very least inconsistency and economy with the truth. Check out some of her differing statements here.
2. CIA briefers are professionals - being a briefer is a specialism for fast-track career analysts within the Agency's Directorate of Intelligence. A CIA briefing given to two senior members of Congress without their staffs present is not a seat-of-the-pants kind of thing. It's well-documented and very, very carefully done. It's hard to imagine why the CIA would now want to lie about such a briefing. Jennifer Millerwise Dyck, a former CIA spokeswoman, was on Fox just now saying she knew the briefer and that he was a model of integrity. That indicates he's well known within the Agency and wil be getting a lot of support.
3. Pelosi's performance at her press conference was pitiful. Check out two great accounts of it from the Washington Post's Dana Milbank here and the Washington Times's Joe Curl here.
4. The derision for her performance yesterday is bipartisan. Republicans are being much more vocal about it but Democrats are laughing too.
5. Obama is trying very hard to placate the CIA, which is very unhappy indeed over his release of the four memos about interrogation techniques. Pelosi has cut right across that. Incurring the wrath of a popular president is not a clever thing to do.
6. The mainstream media - a key factor in the political centre of gravity - is not with her on this one. Check out the sceptical take of the venerated greybeard Dan

Reason #1: Obama wants to replace her with one of his toadies, and has ordered the democrat party mass media to destroy her.
Its remarkable that this little briefing of no real significance now comes to be a major moment in the career of Nancy Pelosi. She has to say that they were lying...but to do this...they merely need to ask her for an investigation to gather the facts of what was spoken at the meeting and what she was briefed. The deeper this entire debate goes...its kinda like Titantic now...with no clear way to get mileage out of interrogation business.
I believe that for her survival....the entire discussion over interrogation has to terminate ASAP. She needs the media to drop the topic and get locked onto healthcare debate.
The other puzzling event tied into this entire soap-opera...is Karl Rove and the fired federal prosecutors. I think the same thing will come up within the next month. I suspect that various things will suddenly require that they examine not only the Bush years but the Clinton years as well...which we have several Clinton players in the Obama camp...who must answer stupid questions over what they knew 16 years ago.
Its almost like Karl Rove engineered this entire event. Not that I would give Karl that much credit.
Pelosi CANNOT change the subject, try as she might.
She has been ordered to be terminated.

How would a hand-picked toadie behave any differently from Pelosi? She may have her own agenda, but it seems pretty much the same as Obama's.
I wouldn’t count San Fran Nan out just yet. Remember, a big part of the ObaMao success story is to surround himself with hyperpartisans and other assorted idiots so that he looks reasonable and intelligent by comparison.

now do our congress critters have the stones to keep this on the front burner? Time will tell. Sadly I am not so hopeful! Keep Cheney our pitbull on it! I love Cheney! Oh how I wish he had been our President :(

I agree...that is why she has to be “disposed of”, as they say at “The Agency”.

If 'inconsistency and economy with the truth' means she's lying through her teeth then why not just say so?
So you think that Pelosi is some kind of stalwart voice of reason within the Democrats and an opponent to Obama's excesses? ROTFLMAO!!!!! Pelosi IS an Obama toady and also one of the most disliked members of Congress in her own caucus. Obama has probably been looking for a reason to get rid of her if for no other reason than to shore up his own party and get them to rally around an actual leader, and probably someone competent. As much as I'm enjoying watching Pelosi self-destruct I have to wonder about who will replace her.
Yup, I want Nancy PEz-dispenser to be the symbol of Dem deceit for next year's elections. You go wacky Nan guurrl you fight it all the way.
