President Barack Obama, who was one of the Bush administration’s sharpest critics concerning the military tribunals used to prosecute detainees at the Guantanamo detention facility, may be backing away from his election promise to abolish them.

Last week, a story in the New York Times reported that the Obama administration is now likely to retain the military commission system, but in a modified form. According to the Times, the announcement regarding this stunning about-face could come as early as next week.

“The more they look at it,” one official told The Times, “the more commissions don’t look as bad as they did on Jan. 20.”

Wisely my butt. It shows what a fraud and sham it was to elect this clown. It looks on the surface as a wise move. He’s scared to death of an attack. He’s made so many wrong moves that one correct move should only be looked at from the context of his foolish, naive and cowardly beliefs if not worse.

Well, promising to close Gitmo and prosecute ‘Bushco’ was good enough to get the loony left to vote for him, and that’s the important thing now that Obamaco is elected, isn’t it?

“The more they look at it,” one official told The Times, “the more commissions don’t look as bad as they did on Jan. 20.”

Same excuse Bill Clinton used after telling the "disaster" of the recovery of the economy under Bush 41.

Lie to the voters with scare tales and promises to the extreme elements of the base.

Whatever it takes to get elected.

It is so strange that so many conservatives want to empower their own executioners. This would be a perfect tool for Obama to use against the “treasonous” people on the right when the time comes.

Sorry, but if it was wise to break the promise, then it was unwise to make the promise.

How’s that immediate Iraq pull out going? Too bad he beat Hillary over the head with Iraq and then after he was nominated he flipped-flopped. Another broken promise.
