CNN) Janet Napolitano just started her first Washington job but speculation lingers over whether she might be interested in a more permanent post in the nation's capital. The Homeland Security secretary continued to shrug off questions Sunday over whether or not she'd be willing to serve on the Supreme Court if she were tapped by President Obama to fill the vacancy left by the retirement of Justice David Souter.
"You know Chris, I got to tell you, I got my hands full with the flu right now and Im just going to stick with that," she told Fox News Sunday's Chris Wallace. Under further questioning, she didn't clarify. "The president has many, many excellent choices before him. And thats his choice," she said.
The former Arizona governor has long been considered by some political observers to be a possible pick for the high court. On Friday, she also did not indicate whether or not she would consider serving on the high court. Im fully engaged as the Secretary of Homeland Security, she told reporters. In fact, I hadnt heard that hed actually resigned so you just broke some news for me today.

Most conservatives groups have been pushing for her to resign. I just don't think they wanted her to resign and take a Supreme Court Judge Post. The thought of Napolitano making laws and governing from the bench probably has most American Conservatives shaking and Liberals cheering. Have heart conservatives this is what is called a trial balloon in politics.
Here is how it works. CNN gets a phone call saying Napolitano is available for an exclusive interview. Of course, CNN, working hard trying to make up some of the lost ratings, jumps on it. During the course of the call setting up the interview, one of her staff members says to the CNN staff member, Have you heard anything about Janet being considered for the Supreme Court seat. The CNN staffer passes it along to the interviewer so that he/she can ask about it when he/she is conducting the interview. Then, depending on the reaction of the listening audience, Napolitano and/or Obama's selection committee will know how to proceed. I am pretty sure I know what the reaction has been.......NO!
As a Conservative, it scares me to death for anyone in the administration to even float this out as a trial balloon. However, remembering this administration's gift for picking tax cheat rejects, I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
Napolitano could not pour piss from a boot if you printed the instructions on the heel.
One homo retires, replace him with another homo.
Since she’s doing such a great job now at DHS, why not? /sarc
I see a LEVIN SURGE in the Senate’s future.
Several, in fact.
She came from a strange place far, far away, in a different star system, unlike Earthlings in every way—Janet N. of Planet LezBeeOnn!
I don’t like her worth spit. That said, she does believe that gun ownership is a right, and she does support the death penalty. So from Obama, you could do worse, even given the fact she is a complete right wing hating nut case.
What qualifications does she have? Is the bar so low that it’s just set on the ground now?
Damn...I was hoping that they would be asking about Judge ANDREW Napolitano in the title.
Judge ANDREW Napolitano for the US Supreme Court...now THAT is “change we can believe in”!
If Napolitano is the nominee, I predict a quick ad hoc Tea Party for that pick lol.
Let’s see, she wants our Iraq/Afghan vets watched for potential terror activity, she thinks the dissent of TParty protesters is dangerous...
Somebody better Filibuster than pukeful nomination if it comes to be.
> Is the bar so low that its just set on the ground now?<
It’s either buried or not there anymore.
Seriously? It shocks me that she even passed the bar exam, much less her politics.
