Hatin' On the GOP, The National Council for a New America and YOU
Publius' Forum ^ | 5/04/09 | Warner Todd Huston

Yeah. I'm as mad at the GOP as you are -- then again I have been for a long time, not just lately. So, in the hope that something good could come of our losses, I listened in on Eric Cantor's conference call launching the National Council for a New America (NCNA) project and you all saw my immediate report. I patiently listened to Representative Eric Cantor and Senator John McCain and heard the vague overview, I took note of the names that were attached to the project, and I realized the import of the five basic issues that they wanted to address. And I just knew what the first reaction to the idea would be. Certainly, I was not disappointed.

One commenter on my piece reflected what seems to be the most common reaction: "If John McCain is in, I'm out." The same sentiment was expressed about Romney, but to a lesser degree. And I've heard this dozens of times over the few days since my report. That and much more, and scarce little of it has been complimentary.

As I said, I feel your pain.

Someone should lock them in a room with an endless loop of Reagan’s 1975 CPAC speech at full volume until they get it.

The final analysis here is that if we eschew this effort, if we walk away, we will be excluding our voice from the debate. We must stick through this thing and fight to get our ideas included in it by consistently urging the conservatives involved to speak our viewpoint. This does not mean that we have to accept the moderate voice, this does not mean that participation is bowing to their wrongheaded views, and joining this debate does not mean that we are turning against our own principles.

The author has jumped the shark. The NCNA is an abomination and hurts the GOP and conservatives. McCain is not a "moderate."

"A political party cannot be all things to all people.
It must represent certain fundamental beliefs
which must not be compromised to political expediency
or simply to swell its numbers."

--  President Ronald Reagan

"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party
over to the traitors in the battle just ended.
We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged
to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support.
Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates
wouldn’t make any sense at all.""

--  President Ronald Reagan

Should the GOP not walk away from McCain, the “base” will not come back to the GOP. The GOP should just go join Jeffords, Chaffee, and Specter on the ash heap of history.

Most of the people in that group are NOT the kind of Republican leaders who will FIGHT for Conservative Values.

McCain is an old wuss who is continuing to act like Mr BiPartisan. He doesn’t take a firm stand on ANY issue that would put him at odds with 0bama.

Most of these guys have skeletons in their closets and are afraid of the MSM opening the door for all to see.

The fighters in the Republican Party? Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann.

And why is that?

They think they can take our Tea Party momentum and usurp it. They can’t because they don’t believe what we believe. They don’t get it and never will. Tea Party on!

“Most of these guys have skeletons in their closets and are afraid of the MSM opening the door for all to see.”

And there you have it. This is why Sarah Palin is attacked so aggressively; she has no skeletons. George Bush had them, therefore he ended up being a compromised candidate and then President. Ronald Reagan had none, so he was unassailable on personal matters and he remained bold is support of his convictions.

As Jay Silverheels ]playing Geronimo], says to Jeff Chandler [playing Cochise], in “Broken Arrow”, “I walk away!”.

Better to die with the Spartans than live with the Persians.

I'm with you. It seems that the organization IN THEORY is a noble cause in that it supposed to give grass root advice to Washington Congressional leaders. Ok, so I don't mind if moderate Republicans are the National Council if they are listening to Conservatives on the National Panel....

However then, I am puzzled how McCain is on the Grass Root Panel. To a lesser extent I am puzzled over Mitt Romney on the Panel. To me the "Panel" is the Congressional Insiders list of 2012 Presidential Contenders. So IN REALITY, it seems to me the Panel is taking orders from the congressional moderates of what line they need to tow if they hope to get support in 2012.

Missing from the Panel is Sarah Palin. Her stock just went up again...

Sarah Palin is not a conservative on the economy. She is a populist.

And, if I’m not mistaken, she supported the bailout.

I suspect that is exactly where the GOP will end up very shortly. The GOP is dead as a party; they just don't know it yet. What will succeed it? Something or maybe nothing.

What's the difference between having John McCain lead the Republicans out of trouble and Barney Frank leading the banking industry out of trouble? (hint: none?)

Go home and build a fence, John, do someting useful.

That thing the rinos held was in Arlington Virginia.

Just so you understand the setting, Arlington County has been voting democratic for over a decade.

Arlington County is heavily populated by white singles working for the government.

Arlington County is about to have a white minority. The big bulging new minority is hispanics—many of whom are illegal. Whites are already a minority in the public schools.

Location was what the language of these rinos was all about:

1.)tiptoe
2.)carry a very small stick.
3.) talk very quietly
4.) we are surrounded by enemies
5.) under no circumstances make our enemies mad for any reason.
6.) He who smelt it delt it. Therefor we smell nothing. (nor do we see or hear anything either.)

7.)We are defenseless. Therefor we need the government. Elect us so we can become the government. The government will protect us. If you want protection you must join the government too. That means going along with what we say. What do we say? See above.
