Once again I am reminded that my musical heroes are simply dumb ignorant hooman beans (hat tip Patrick McManus from Outdoor Life 1978). Here's to hoping old Ralph has since had a change of heart.
I guess I need to amend that cause Brother Ted Nugent has yet to let me down
The old bluegrasser's been smokin' the green grass.
LOL I think corn whiskey has something to do with enabling a person to make to the “older than rocks” stage.
Well, it is a preservative. Look how long Willie Nelson has lasted!
The “mountain music” pioneers weren’t necessarily exemplars of anything but true grit, but Wow, what a pack of talent. People will be listening to the Stanley Brothers a thousand years from now.
If you knew any bluegrass, you would know Ralph’s brother Carter drank himself to death in near record time. Ralph doesn’t drink or allow his band to drink.
Why he went for Obama, I have no explanation.
Just as importantly, he was born and raised, and still lives, in an area that’s a Democratic stronghold despite being one of the most socially conservative places in the nation. Southwest Virginia keeps putting Rick “Mr. Peepers” Boucher (D-9th) back on the Hill despite a lifetime ACU rating in the single digits, simply because he’s a D and he doesn’t go crazy left on social issues. It’s a place where the United Mine Workers is strong, FDR is still venerated, and a populist distrust of big business runs a mile wide. Obama’s “tax cut for 95% of working Americans” shtick finds fertile ground back up in those hollers.

Probably because he can’t remember anything more recent than the 1950s, God love him. My Dad is fuzzy about anything after 1970, and he’s ten years younger :-).

Just damn, his voice is straight from heaven, even if he is senile.
FDR bought his family with a pack of Cheese and a box of crackers.
That's probably why he can still sing. Hard living kills the voice (cf. Willie Nelson). Carter Stanley was 41 when he died, the year I was born.
Democrats?... (Eddie Murphy laugh)..
Every Barack I knew ... seemed to be a rank stranger ...
